Hey lookin for some people who know good spots to wheel in the Medford /Grants Pass/ Ashland / Jacksonville area. Ive been lookin for sometime now and I almost always find the cool lookin trails are private property or fenced off to public. Im not rly a fan of scratched up paint... either lol.

    Hey Ray,

I live just outside of Grant's Pass and have been out on a few of the trails around here.

Not a big fan of scratching paint on our new rig (we have quads for the gnarly stuff) either.

Would enjoy meeting up and maybe hitting some backroad scenery.

I have ridden all dirt from Takilma to Brookings by running dirt roads on the southern boundary of the Kalimiopsis wilderness. This area burned in the “Biscuit” fire and was devastated, no trees, no brush but great trails and big views. If you hustle you can make Brookings for lunch and gas and get back before dark.

Also if you don’t want to bush whack your truck, try the Oregon dunes. I was in Horsfall at the bottom of the dunes just above Coos Bay and what a great place. Oregon actually encourages and supports off roading in the dunes and on the beach. The dunes were Smooth, clean and deserted and with the tree islands, plenty to explore. The campground was clean and quiet at night, something you could never say about Glamis. Oregon really is a great state.

Great advice about the dunes, thanks!

I have explored around the Drew area (between Canyonville and Trail) a fair bit on 3-wheelers, quads and trucks. The logging road system there is quite expansive.

Around the Grant's Pass area I have less experience, but have been up on the Chrome ridge and few other trails in the Taylor creek area, over Bear Camp road a few times, up Granite hill, Savage creek and have taken every trail to its end on out off West Pickett Creek road by our house.

When with the wife we stick to nice open gravel roads like Onion Mountain.

Hope we could have a group ride in this area one of these days.

    Happy Trails!

Sorry for being absent for so long... With school and work I've been busy. I have found some cool trails just outside of talent. If you take Wagner Creek Rd all the way up it takes you to hundreds of miles of trails. They are mostly BLM Trails but this spring Im going to try to take those trails all the way to Applegate. Also @Hercanstein im diggin the 2020 6MT. I would like to hit a group ride 2!

No worries Ray, glad to hear from you again!

I've been liking the 6MT as well, but it is sure different from the 5MT in my 99!

Weekends work well for us to do group rides or meetups. Looking forward to it!

    Happy trails!

I also used to have a 97 taco 5mt. It is much different.

good idea, used to live right next door in Reedsport. I hear there's another nice sand play area near Christmas Valley, 100 miles NE of Klamath falls

I know @Hercanstein wants to meet up. I would also like to meet up. I think it would be a blast to see the limits of what our new rigs can do, with the safety net of all of us being their to back each other up. Lol I’m open most weekends to.

I’m really liking this part of the Oregon coast, would you mind a few questions offline in a PM?

48 hours in for my 2018 Tacoma, tinted windows and debadged
I'm in the GP area as well. the great thing about S. Oregon is you can go out and get lost but not too lost. Not sure if you all are interested but you may wanna check out some of the off road clubs or Caveman 4wheelers or Team Overland. We go out and explore quit a bit as well.

    Howdy,

Yep, I’ve been on that road a few times over the years. You can also get to it from the Mt Ashland ski access road. Drive past the lodge around the back side of the mountain. Few miles in you’ll see the Wagner Gap turn off, continue on to Dutchman Peak and the Applegate. The Pacific Crest Trial runs right along that road for a good distance.

Somewhere back there behind Applegate Lake you can get on the road down to the Klamath River and goes on out to Happy Camp.

Further west of Talent and Wagner Creek/Gap is Anderson Butte which will drop you into the little applegate and sterling creek ditch mine rd above Jacksonville or out onto W. Griffin Creek Rd. and Coleman Creek behind Phoenix/Talent.

Tons of logging roads to explore all over the Rogue River Basin.

    Cheers!
