Bit of a doozy here. Did a ton of research, but am coming up empty. any ideas of solutions or guidance to a possible solution would be welcome.

    Details:
    -1996 Tacoma, 3.4 V6 4X4, 203,XXX mi.
-Crazy squeal/scream coming from under the dash.
-Only happens on cold mornings after car has been sitting overnight.
    -Quits after about 15 min.
-Starts at around 50mph, increases with acceleration.
-As you can see in the video, the speedo needle jumps around while it happens.
-I put my hand in the far front of the driver's dash by the windshield and it seems like something was struggling in there, I could feel a lot of movement.
-Not shown in the video, but if I turn on the cruise control the light flashes and cruise control does not engage while this is happening. It will engage and work fine once the squeal stops.
-Insofar as I can tell it is not tied to a "reed effect" from anything loose being affected by the wind. Nor is it tied to the heat/air system as I switched a ton of knobs around and even turned it off.

See video below. Might want to turn volume down a bit as the noise if grating.

    Thanks for any insight!

Speedo cable issue. The older trucks use an actual cable that goes to the speedometer. 99.9% sure that’s your issue.

I had an 80s Toyota pick up that did the exact same thing on cold first runs. Cured itself when the speedo cable finally snapped.

I've replaced the cable on my 95.5 three times now. It starts to stick inside the sheath when it's cold. However I'm at the point that I think the cluster itself is worn out (308k miles). Eventually in time it will catch hard and peg to the moon and the needle will get stuck at 115mph or zero. You can just pull the needle off and reset it at zero.

As I recall about $80 and takes about an hour to replace the cable.

    That’s reassuring!

Any idea how the speedo cable is tied into the cruise control on these? Seemed weird that the cruise light just flashed and control wouldn’t engage until the cable had sorted through its cold weather problems and stopped squealing.

Ooohhh good question. I'm not entirely sure though. I've never had my cruise on while its done the speedo howl.
