Skid Plate Recommendations

Use a floor jack. You shouldn’t really need to take our skid plates off to do any oil change anyway since we include an access panel for the oil filter and drain plug. I do recommend a Fumoto valve to replace the drain plug. Makes it a lot easier.

 

For my purposes, and everyone's is different, I went TRD. Aluminum, so light weight. Durable enough for my truck purposes. Very affordable when compared to other brands. Great looks and fitment. Its Toyota afterall.

I went wit CBI overland skids in steel. Love em great for oil changes and great for protection. Dont notice the extra weight.

I went with RCI. I was torn between CBI and RCI. I ended up getting the RCI during their Black Friday sale, got it within 4 days.

 

I have RCI steel skids and have beat the ever living shit out of them since I learned to wheel with a heavy foot. @YamaDirtrider and @Red Baron can attest to how beat up they are.

That being said, they have not failed or compromised in any way shape or form. Multiple big dents/ding/scrapes but the overall integrity is till in tack

This may not apply to your truck, but hopefully some others on here find this useful. DV8 skiplate. only one I could find that did not have a built in oil filter hatch. This one works great for my 2.7 4cyl. No need to drop the skid for oil changes.

 

RCI is what I have and many others. They were used so I wasnt picky on the brand. The CBI and Mobtown cover a little more on the sides for the front skid..

 

I have the full set of SOS skid plates. I can attest to them being bomb proof

 

I think I'm going to keep the factory skid plate upfront and invest in a mid skid plate, transfer case skid plate, and gas tank skid plate. I figure I'd swap out the front skid plate after it gets banged up a bit and I determine I really need it. Wondering what you guys think? Is that factory skid plate really that bad? I'm thinking since it's already protected upfront I can use my resources in another part of the overall build.
