I drop my truck off tomorrow at the stealership, picking it back up Saturday. I'm a little anxious as to the end result of this, because I sure as shit do not want a frame swap if it comes to that. Has anyone brought their truck in for this recall? I've got some rust, but I don't think it's an insane amount - the service rep on the phone today said "I can about guarantee you'll need sprayed underneath".

Is this also the same issue from a few years ago?

The description of the recall is below.

    Title
LIMITED SERVICE CAMAIGN K0D (Remedy Notice) - Certain 2011 - 2017 Model Year Tacoma - Frame Corrosion Resistant Compound (CRC) Application

    Status
    Inspection Required

    Description
Toyota has received reports regarding frame corrosion perforation on 2011 – 2017 model year Tacoma vehicles. In these reports, customers have indicated that vehicles operated in specific cold climate areas with high road salt usage may exhibit more-than-normal corrosion to the vehicle’s frame. This condition is unrelated to and separate from normal surface rust which is commonly found on metallic surfaces after some years of usage and/or exposure to the environment.

    Remedy
Any authorized Toyota dealer in the Cold Climate States (CCS) will first inspect the condition of the vehicle’s frame under associated Customer Support Program (CSP) ZKA. Based upon the results and date of the inspection, the dealership will do one of the following: If qualifying rust perforation is not found, and the vehicle is located in a Cold Climate State, the dealer will apply Corrosion Resistant Compound (CRC) and/or install frame plugs to key areas of the vehicle’s frame FREE OF CHARGE to the owner under Limited Service Campaign (LSC) K0D. If qualifying rust perforation is not found, and the vehicle is not located in a Cold Climate State, no further action is required. If significant rust perforation is found, the dealer will replace the vehicle’s frame FREE OF CHARGE to the owner under Customer Support Program ZKA if all conditions of the program are met.

New member here, I just got mine back this morning. From the looks of the CRC stuff it looks and acts like wool wax. I figured for an extra 8 or 9 years of frame warranty it couldn’t hurt. The process as explained to me was they washed the boxed sections of frame. Then ran large brushes through the same sections. Hook it up to a dryer for 4 to 8 hours, install frame plugs and then use the crc to coat the frame.

Just makes me wonder what will happen to the other parts of my truck with 44,000 miles on it, and a brand new frame. I'm most likely just over thinking it - I mean, it is what it is.

Hell yea, I'd take a new frame if my truck wasn't a '15 with 44k miles and spotless. The welds are rusty on mine, so we'll see today. My wife is dropping my truck off (and she wants a 4Runner) -- Maybe she'll sweet talk the service guy into that being the loaner!

Yeah... they wash and spray the inside boxes area... BS. Well, at least BS if you take it to Brunswick AutoMart. Boxed area was not done on mine and guess where I have holes. If yours was treated well, then awesome for you. Hopefully you have a good shop at your dealership.

To be honest I hope they are a good shop, they really just opened up new building new everything less than a year ago. Fingers crossed they are trying to build a good name, but they do include a fresh frame warranty after application.

Here’s what you don’t want yours to look like. So make sure you inspect.

I just had my 2013 tacoma done. They only coated the inside of the frame with some sore of wax coating...i still have rust at every weld connection on the exterior of the frame. Seems crazy to me that the recall did not clean and sprat the outside of the frame...

Atleast they did something the inside, that’s the worst part of mine and looks like nothing was ever done. Oh, did I mention I paid this same dealer to have the truck coated new? What they used in mine did not seem like a wax. Either way, keep an eye on it and consider a regular reapplication regiment if you’re in the salt.

Here’s what the inside of the frame rails of my 2015 looks like, I’ll try to update photos of it once it’s done. I’m not sure I’ll be able to get an inside view with the caps on.

I’m still curious of others people experience with the campaign on 2011-2017s, and if there’s anything I can do to protect the rest of the frame without voiding the warranty. I’ll have to have fluid film or similar applied every winter from here on out.
