So reading this, your engine lost 2.5 quarts, the 2.7L takes 5.4 quarts and the 3.5L takes 5.9 quarts of oil. What this means is that the engine didn't run completely dry. The protection system did it's job and alerted you of the issue. Based on this information, I don't think you will have any issue with it in the future. You do have the email so keep that and get it checked over at 1000 miles as the dealer suggested. As for returning to that dealer, that will be a choice you will have to make.

The smell will be oil in places the just can't be steamed off. It is incredible where it can get. It will disappear over time.

    ...^^^... OP ... please ... please do NOT fall for a ... "sugar-coated-BS-Letter" ... like that.

They should have the integrity to stand behind their mistakes ... period. That letter is ... "dealer cover their @ss and pure BS"... IMO.

    ...^^^... this X 10

Demand a 125,000 mile ... 10 year Platinum Warranty from Toyota Corp ... this would be my minimum request ... make sure to open a file with Toyota Corp.too.

I do NOT trust those zillion mile dealer warranties ... after reading ALL of their fine print.

Also, noticed that you asked why the 2.5 quarts wasn’t drained prior to refill...according to the letter that was all drained and then refilled so you’re good there.

The 3.5 actually holds 6.2 Quarts, hard to understand their 2.5 out of 5 explanation.

With tow package. Without it is 5.9 quarts. I guess that doesn't matter anymore though as they all have the tow package now, if I remember correctly.

Perhaps just one more reason not to trust anything they have to say?

Chimed in midway and still feel the same....

Drive the truck as long and as normally as you would've before the incident. Keep the email in the glove box.

Cheers! And now do your own servicing!

If the dealer covered all their vehicles to 250,000 miles they’d go broke. It’s a scam. Demand an extended warranty from Toyota or lawyer up. They are playing you.

Some dealers do cover the engine for life.
Problem is you have to have ALL service done with them over the years.
If you miss a $50 tire rotation, engine warranty is void. Big $$$ over the years. In other words like you said, it's a scam.

Those bullshit dealer warranties are worthless! They are full of red tape that requires you to have all of your service performed at that dealership or it becomes void.

Parents probably taught them about a hard days work. Not like a lot of parents who want to be their child’s best friend.

My mistake on draining the oil, after reading again, I see that they did drain the oil.
How many quarts of oil does the engine hold? 5 or 7?

This is what happens when consumers demand lower prices, you get less skilled workers, less customer service, and lower quality items. The most costly line on any business is payroll and it is the first that gets hit when consumers demand lower prices and then the same consumers bitch they do not get the same customer service, takes too long, not enough employees on staff, or less skilled workers are working on their product.

My oil change (On Ford's, all I have for experience have not got an oil change at Toyota yet) has not gone up in 20 years... I am pretty sure cost has, wages have... so what do you think they are skimping on? *hint - quality, customer service, and skilled labor*

It holds 6.2 Quarts for the V6 engine, their explanation makes no sense to me.

Yeah and the 7year 250k mile warranty is a joke for her . She is only putting 10k miles a year so in seven years 70k miles and maybe the damage dosen't show yet .
