    I was going to tell John if his house has oil heat, that he should get heat pumps to cut back on fuel costs...

    What brand of heat pump does your new house have? Also, why does your new house have gas heat but an electric stove? I've lived in three houses that had natural gas heat but an electric stove; I've never lived in a house with propane heat.

    You should get heat pumps if you go with the ductless mini-splits; They can really save you money over oil when it's above 35 degrees or so.

    Your house was built in like 1910?

    You know how I used to work at bar called Puck? Well, I'm still technically employed there, just furloughed...

    Anyway, the owners of Puck have this beautiful house right in the borough that was built in 1824! It has been thoroughly modernized inside while retaining the original 1820s feel on the outside; It even has gas-powered lamps at the front door! The house has been retrofitted with three-zone central air, and recently a fourth unit was added!

    The 4th unit is a builder-grade Bryant, only a 1.5-ton (18,000 BTU), installed for an addition they made a couple years ago. The house also a 1996 Rheem, and two big old 1980s York Stellar series units...

    @Taco critter

    Puck opened in 2005 or 2006, and I’m pretty sure the owners bought the building sometime before that; Employees come and go, and by 2014-2015 it got to the point where I was the only one who knew where the outdoor A/C unit was located!

    Once, on my day off, the heat pump for the basement venue had to be serviced; I got a text from the owner of the building (this really nice woman in her 60s) asking me where the outdoor unit was because the tech couldn’t find it! I immediately told her where the unit was and the tech was able to service...

    No clue your guess is good as mine. Also I don’t even know how to turn on a furnace let alone remember what brand it is. I have a lot to learn about living in seasons lol

    All you have to do is set the thermostat to heat and the furnace will turn on. In more mild temperatures, the heat pump will turn on; below freezing (maybe more like 35-38 degrees) or when the heat pump is defrosting, the furnace will kick in...

    I’m guessing that in Oregon, the A/C will be used more to filter allergens and pollen because it rarely gets that hot there...

    According to the Lennox website, the efficiency-based regional install thing doesn't seem to apply to heat pump versions of the same models; This is more than likely because all heat pumps are a tad less efficient than the straight-cool A/C version of the same unit and are thus exempted for this reason. The least efficient brand new heat pumps I've ever seen since about 2013 were rated at 13 SEER and 7.7 HSPF; The most efficient Lennox heat pump available today, right here and right now, is rated at "up to 23.5 SEER" and "up to 10.2 HSPF". My friend Doug's parents' Bryant Evolution Series (which I picked out) was installed in June 2010 and was rated at 16 SEER and just shy of 9 or 10 HSPF when it was new.

    Any heat pump manufactured prior to 1992, unless it is a super high-end model, is going to be less than 10 SEER and about 5 or 6 HSPF; Even a top-of-the-line heat pump from almost three decades ago will likely be less efficient than the cheapest and most inefficient heat pump available today due to the following factors...

    • Age
    • Wear and tear
    • Neglect
    • Advances in technology

    Any air-conditioner or heat pump from 1992 or later is going to be at least a 10 SEER, and any unit from January 2006 or newer is going to be at least a 13 SEER. When replacing a unit that is 13 SEER or less, the only way to see a noticeable reduction in your utility bill is to replace that unit with one of at least 16 SEER.

    Funny you posted that as I noticed a unit just like that at Lowe's the other day, it looked like it had the guts in it too.

    Your unit is proof that Lennox builds good products; I believe we established that yours is from 1993...?

    The oldest working Lennox central air-conditioner I have ever seen was a 1969 model installed at my ex-girlfriend's parents' house; It died in a 2014 or 2015 I believe and was replaced with a base model Lennox unit under their homeowner's insurance policy. I guarantee you that new Lennox will not last anywhere near five decades like the one it replaced!

    @Kidwidataco

    This started out as a build thread and has a lot stuff about the work done to my truck; It was originally started in 2016 or 2017, but it has been backdated to my join date of 2014 because the mods merged my "new member intro" into it...

    I figured I'd continue this discussion about the greatest drama series ever (and greatest show about the mafia ever), here; This way I don't clog up the other thread with off-topic BS...

    Christopher Moltisanti (one of my favorite characters on the series and also quoted in my signature) drove a beautiful 1997 Lexus LS400 for the first season and a half or so of the series...

    [IMG]

    The pilot episode was filmed in 1997, but the other twelve episodes were filmed in 1998 or 1999; The Lexus is implied to be brand new in the pilot episode, which despite being filmed in 1997 can be assumed to take place in 1999. When talking to his psychiatrist, Tony says "and this is a kid who just bought himself a $60,000 Lexus" but does not say whether it was new or not...

    The screenshot above was taken from Season 1/Episode 8, "The Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti"

    IMCDb lists Christopher's Lexus as a 1997 model, so it is possible he bought it used in 1999, but I don't think a used '97 LS400 with even ridiculously low miles would cost sixty grand in 1999 (Isn't that what they cost new?). The screenshot below is of Christopher's Lexus in the pilot episode, which as stated above was filmed in 1997. You will notice that the car does not have larger chrome wheels seen in later season 1 episodes, and is also wearing a different license plate; The damage seen on the front left corner of the car is the result of Tony using the car to run down a guy who owned him and Christopher money from gambling debt...

    [IMG]

    I think it looks better with the chrome wheels...

    By 2000, Chris had gotten rid of the Lexus and bought himself a 1999 Mercedes CLK430; This screenshot is from the season 3 episode where he got made...

    He owned the Mercedes from 2000 until 2001, and bought himself a new Ranger Rover in after getting made in this same episode; IMCDb lists the Range Rover as a 2000, but the episode takes place in 2001 and the SUV is shown with a Monroney sticker, so it's probably intended to be a new '01 model...

    [IMG]

    Chris was implied to have paid cash for the Ranger Rover, but it was a lot for him and he ended up owing fellow mobster Paulie Walnuts significant money from a sports book, which he could not immediately pay back because he'd blown his money on the Ranger Rover. Chris was shown to have significant drug and alcohol habit for most of the series, and this Range Rover was carjacked by drug dealers maybe a year and a half at most after Chris bought it (Season 4, in 2002); The Range Rover was never to be seen again, and I'm guessing that Chris's insurance more than likely paid out...
