Find a utility cap. Are dcu can be had used for under 500 and both sides normally have openings as well. Also dont have to worry about them cracking if you off road or travel washboard roads like you do a fiberglass shell. The down side is they dont look as pretty. Also you can find black ones which is what i would recommend on any color other then white. Also they come with a roof rack. Or most of them do.

Here in Canada you pay shipping for Lund/ARE/Snugtop, quotes for the 100XR and the other base model caps with no choices of features (basic front slide, 50/50 sides) were $2800-$3500 cad. Both times I bought the final bills were $1300, and $1600 driven away.

I am as well looking for a shell. A good one with matching paint. The Tonneau cover is nice, but it's not working for me.

    Stock for now.. maybe
Wow, guess it pays off to stay local in certain locations. Good deal. All the smaller local shops that used to do that have changed into leer/are dealers over time in my location (SE USA). I work in Alaska and when I searched locally there it was the same issue with shiiping

I found a used one about 2 h from my house, kinda beat up and w no features. It's a ridge rider or something but its MGM like my truck. I jumped on it for 100$, cant go wrong. I do sometimes wish it had more features and was in better shape, but really I see it as utility, not style. Plus it doesnt look bad, it just isnt an suv. I'd put a pic. But dont know how. Haha

I've looked at LEER as well and I like them, but the price is about $600 more for the local LEER/Snugtop dealer compared to driving to the ARE dealer. I'm also torn on cab height vs the 4" raised (leer 180 or ARE MX, Sung highliner). I like the look of cab height, but from my research that extra couple inches is always a benefit in function.

Wow ya for $100 its almost disposable. The used I'm looking at was made in 2017 good shape, about $600, but could be bought new for around 1200 as it sits since it doesn't have many options other than headliner.

I see more listings for SB than LB by a wide margin. I have a Tonneau as well currently (Tyger T5 aluminum trifold) which works well, but I'm guessing my 90lb dog would not like riding under it :D

I'd look at commercial grade caps too, but have not seen many posted. Would prefer the sleeker options though. I'm not a fan of the cap look anyway, but hard to beat the function of dry relatively secure storage and good spot for the pup and gear when camping etc.

I had Leer on my 1st gen Taco and want a cap for my 2020. I have the half tent that fits over the back of the shell and I want to keep using that.

I had an extra height cap on my first gen. and now have a cab high cap. I don't notice a difference in the interior volume. There are a couple of differences that I do notice.

The extra height cap with the roof rack that I had put me right around 7 feet high which was sometimes an issue with parking garages and even a home garage.

On the extra height cap, when long items were on the roof rack and hung out the back, I could easily walk under them but can't with the cab high cap.

With the cab height cap, I was able to add an addition roof rack cross bar on the cab that lined up height wise with the cap rack so I can carry longer items and move them forward so they don't hang out as far in the rear.

Good points on the cab height vs raised cap. Like your setup with the front mounted hitch and cargo extender pretty good idea for long stuff. I don't need the bed as much as some because I came from a 4runner which required me buying a 5x10 flatbed trailer for "truck stuff" dirt bikes, mulch etc that I still have. good looking rig you have there.

The one who dies with the most stuff wins.
Man that looks good. My truck is SSM and I passed a good deal on a black cap that I've sort of been regretting since I wanted to hold off for a color matched one. But seeing yours makes me more than sort of regret passing up that deal and I might go back to looking for either black or SSM instead of just SSM.

Ya that combo does look sweet. I don't think SSM cap on a MGM would be as pleasing to the eye lol.

I highly recommend the Leer 180 if you have a dbl cab LB, takes away from the limo look as well as much easier to camp in when in the outback. That is what I will be buying for my new dblcb lb or. If they get the howl problem fixed on rear diff. Not buying til I know its fixed.

I’ve heard that extra space is really nice but I think I’ve decided cab height due to eventual lift and retain the ability to enter parking garages. I need more space than truck camping would provide anyway with 2 kids, wife, dog. From what I’ve seen from the high roof models Snugtop highliner looks the best (to me) the leer 180 and ARE MX look decent too. Guess I’ll be in that trail limo crew lol

I'd buy the $600 used cap and bed liner it if bed liner isn't too expensive for you to do or have done at a shop. It'll be durable and you won't have to worry a whole lot about scratching it.
