Just bought my first Toyota - a 2015 Access Cab 2wd I4 5spd. It is lots of fun to drive and the 5 speed is good to have on mountain roads.

I only received 1 key with my truck and it is an aftermarket version that probably has a chip in it. Research on the web indicates that some 2015 Tacomas might have a G key and some might have an H key. Could other 2015 owners let me know if their key is G or H ? The letter is stamped where the metal part of the key meets the plastic grip. I need to obtain more keys and it would be helpful to know if I need the G or H version.

    Thanks

How many lug nuts do the wheels have?

Is there a blinking red light in the middle of the dash, when there’s no key in the truck?

Take your VIN to your local Toyota dealer's parts counter, and ask them to look it up. Get the info direct from the "horse's mouth." Feel free to ask how much a OEM replacement key will cost.

It should look like this, if there is one.

Thanks for the quick replies. Wheels are 5 lug. The outline of the security indicator light is visbile to the left of passenger seat belt info lights. However the security indicator light does not ever turn on or blink. Perhaps the truck does not have an immobilizer ?

Your truck does not have an immobilizer. You don’t need chipped keys.

I will see if the local Ace Hardware can copy my key to a non-chip blank. As a minimum that will give me a second key to unlock the doors if I accidentally lock the other key inside. The truck does have a remote fob for door lock / unlock but that function is independent of the immobilizer.

I always, always, always go to a locksmith for key and lock stuff.

For $3.50 Ace Hardware copied my only key to a non-chip blank ... and it starts the truck ! So this particular 2015 base Tacoma does not have an immobilizer.

That means the original keys that came with the truck would not have been G or H chip version, they were the non-chip version. Those keys are gone and the only key that came with the truck was an aftermarket chip key with no indication of the version.

    Thanks to everyone who responded.
