If he’s serious, he could buy one online that he likes and make a similar one.

Whichever the case, I’ve seen many of the hobby bumpers and some are ok, but never as good as the pro fab shops.

But it didn't stop you from trying and doing it yourself!

If I'd have suggested he measure it himself and he just plainly said "no because I don't want to" I'd have left him alone. But he was so dodgy it just made me curious about what was going on, and now we know. He doesn't want to. Cool beans.

This may be a better forum to search, tons of hobby fabbers in there

@sekohone please don't misunderstand my dismissiveness as mocking. I grew up with a father that liked to teach me things by saying "Get a hold of it and figure it out." He'd only jump in to stop me from screwing something up.

As you are designing this in CAD you have a lot more room for error so I'll say this again...

Grab your tape measure and crawl under your truck!

You might be surprised. I've had Mobtown help me out with re-working their bed bars and was even encouraged to make my own for production. I think they know the reality is, none of us home jobbers are going to cut into their margins.

Aside from that, the bolt pattern on your frame horns is hardly proprietary knowledge. I would think they'd be willing to share the information, if they had it easily on hand. I'm certainly not expecting them to share CAD files.

Every time I see yours, I realize I need to get my ass in gear and install mine.

When I had my Jeep, there was a local manufacturer that made sliders. I went by one day and not only did they let me see their setup, I got to help build my own sliders. Were they as polished as the final product? Nope, not at all. But I made them with their help and their measurements at a fraction of the price.

There are a lot of cool people out there that just love the community and will give back like this if you ask. The worst that can happen is people decline.

Ha! That’s not my pic! I’m stalking. The day mine arrives I’ll be cutting. I think lead time is about 12 now.

Definitely take physical measurements on your truck first and don't forget your fasteners and hole sizes. Measure more than once and either mock up something to test fit or design in CAD and find a reasonably accurate model of the truck to make sure it looks OK in digital space. There are a couple out there but I don't know if their fidelity is worth the cost. I don't know if you would get any help from Toyota but when I am designing from scratch I will contact vendors to get either models or 2D drawings before cutting any chips. Maybe SEMA would be good knowledge share option as well I am just not familiar with what they have and what it takes to get it.

You can even just start making a concept in CAD and then modify as you get the information in either from your own measurements or from other sources. Leave yourself some tolerance and don't model line to line or things will bind or just not fit. Unless you can get accurate tolerance info from Toyota your design will based solely on your own truck's dimensions. I searched for some Tacoma 3D models and CAD data but the best I could find was the 2015 frame info and some decent surface models (some free and others not)

I wouldn't expect someone who manufactures bumpers to share their information even for personal projects since it either cost them time to do their own measurements or there is cost associated with getting accurate information from Toyota or some place else. They probably don't want to burn any bridges or be in violation of some NDA by releasing information like that on the web.

Thank you! It's modeled off an L2 which my dad used to run.

Not to hijack but here's a couple more. Everything moves on them, btw.

These are why I encourage the OP to take his own measurements!

This was my first attempt to see if there was anything out there before getting down and dirty from some1 that may have done it before and decided to put it out there as a DIY - maybe I came bout it d wrong way so I guess that’s my bad. i also wanted to make it clear it wasn’t to make money out of other ppls work cus i don’t have time for that I just want to build my own shit as I’m currently working on a bed rack just need to cut n weld. I’m a hands on type of person n I guess u can say a cheapoooo too cus I know I can build all that myself n save a shit ton of money.

if I can cut sum corners good if not then I’ll do what I gotta do.

    I appreciate d feedback ✌️

I’m not looking for cad files - all I need is pretty much how n where the bumper is held into place as I have ideas of how I want the front n sides to look.
