Anyone here ever work as one of the people that does blood tests?

I have a terrible phobia of needles. Had mass ear infections when I was a little kid and got great multitudes of penicillin shots in the ass, till I had my tonsils took out... never had an ear ache after that.

I'm guessing that's where the phobia comes from?

Weird thing is that blood tests never bothered me a bit. I got great veins, and honestly never felt much of anything during them...till the last one I had.

I was just sitting there talking to the girl while she was taking my blood, and all of a sudden I felt a pretty intense pain in the bend of my arm.

Woke up drenched in sweat, and embarrassed as hell. I aint been back for one in 5 years because of that, but my doc has been busting my balls about getting one.

Anyone have a clue why I would have passed out when they've never bothered me at all before?

I sure as hell don't want to be that embarrassed ever again.

That sucks. Possible she hit something other than what she was suppose to?
In basic, the guy who was my partner for IV sticks in CLS jammed the needle straight down (and I mean all the way to the hilt) into my arm.

A good blood draw is almost painless, maybe ask for a ‘sharpshooter’ nurse next time that has a reputation for finding the vein on the first time, this is a thing. Also don’t be overly hungry going in. That feeling upon wakeup is more of a physical reaction based on starting up again and finding your bearings more than it is emotionally based. Nurses have seen it all, that does happen all the time. But in your case I think you got a bad draw like windsor said above. Also as tests get more efficient and focused, total draw volume can be smaller than 5 yrs ago.

I had a draw back in November, near painless since they used such a tiny needle, and I can't look while they poke me. I had a head injury a couple years ago and was really getting tired of the IV in my arm, then they had to move it twice, then all the other pokes. My arm was really sore when I finally got released.

I believe the specific term for a person who does bloods tests is a phlebotomist.

I had one of those when I was 16, but they used the good stuff so I didn’t feel a thing!

I have to fast for the test. Not sure if it's 8 or 12 hours. I'll be starving when I get it done.

The girl that took the blood was good, pretty much painless. It was mid way thru when I passed out.

I hate needles, I hate shots, I hate IV's and I fucking hate my blood being drawn.

    When getting blood drawn,
I tell the phlebotomist just do it and dont tell me

    When getting a shot,
I tell the nurse/ doc / ma to just do it and dont tell me

When getting and IV pulled out,
I tell the nurse/ doc / ma to just Fucking pull it out and dont tell me when

I try to think about ANYTHING other than where I am at those moments.

Back when I was in Bootcamp in the early 80's I had a Corpsman do a blood draw on me . He missed the vein and hit a nerve and immediately I felt a hot burning pain . I immediately went light out and woke up on the deck

For years after that I was scared of blood draws and was very nervous whenever I had one . I would turn my head away and close my eyes during the blood draw . The nurses at the VA would always tease me because I was a Marine . About 5 years ago i had surgery and had a IV pick placed in my hand i never felt it being inserted into a vein . I also had daily blood draws and never felt the needle

Since that surgery I've had no issues/ anxiety with blood draws

Had to have the blood work done before my next doc visit in April.

Kept dreading it and was getting in my head.

Thought fuck that shit and went today to get it over with.

Was just like all my other blood tests in the past that went good... only my last one was ever bad.

Pulling that damn tape off my arm hurt more than the test.

I fainted once after having blood drawn for lab analysis. I had been fasting and was stood up too quickly, worst part was hitting my head on the tile floor, getting a concussion and chipping a bunch of teeth.

Went in on tuesday for a lab draw for my annual VA checkup/neurosurgery pre-op checkup. A bit of the usual fishing expedition. They always seem weirded out when I watch and ask if they need a bigger hook.

    Man...that would suck.

The one time I passed out, I woke up in the chair soaked in sweat. I fasted for 14 damn hours for that one.
