I was looking into rcv axles, from what I've read seems like they are the route I would probably go if I ever break an axle... Anything that breaks will be upgraded!

Any info? Not sure I'm buying, but on the lookout

Same here but RCV are overkill. If you're not jumping or hard sending with extended angles, the RCV isn't necessary in my opinion. The bump stops and limit straps are there to prevent catastrophic failure. And for how much a recovery is for a trail breakdown, the tow fees would buy you a full complete set of axles. Pursuing hard driving, mid travel with bypasses is more than enough. Ask total chaos about it. They have lots of experience tuning mid travel set ups and have it done really well.

I carry two 2wd hubs and bearings. Doesnt cost much or take much space. This wayif anything in the front grenades I can still get home.

That’s pretty smart. Might have to grab one for the spare parts box.

This all stated my top priority is a set of rcv axles. Big tires and crawling just don’t go well for standard size axles.

Just one per year. And on a bigger trip I carry a complete spare axle. Just didn’t have it the last time we wheeled together lol.

I second the notion of using prerunner hubs as trail spares - not being able to freewheel after spending all that dough on the Marlin kit vs a race kit with race / dana hubs got me thinking about it, still didn't want to say anything over there about it...

Meh, I’ve done 100+ miles on a 4wd with no outer cv/ hub nut holding the hub together without issue. Granted that’s before I knew that nut literally held the wheel from falling off other than parts being pressed together, but like I said, meh. Would I do it again? Depends on the distance from home, driving conditions and location of the axle break. Luckily my last one was basically at the outer cv so I pulled the axle out of the inner, and duct taped both ends “sealed” to prevent grease leakage, and made it home no problem.

That won’t work on a 1st gen hub.

    Wasn't 100% since I only have a prerunner 2nd gen - like @4Running Daily said a 1st gen wouldn't work and I wasn't sure if the 2nd gen 4wd hubs were like that.
