Not impressed by Nissan these days? Neither are the American dealers.

When Makoto Uchida took the reins as Nissan CEO in December, both the company and its newly appointed executive knew there was work to be done. Besides the obvious embarrassments, like former megaboss Carlos Ghosn fleeing Japanese prosecutors in a musical instrument box and a subsequent overhaul of the executive ranks, North American sales have been declining in tandem with the automaker's image. And U.S. dealers aren't mincing words about the situation.

After owning a 91 300z TT, I vowed to never own another Nissan again. Garbage.

I can describe one of Nissan's biggest problems in 3 words: Continuously Variable Transmission.

Nissan jumped whole hog into the CVT and when basically the only thing you can get a real transmission in is a truck, your car lineup is going to suffer.

Other manufacturers also offer CVTs, but not across almost their entire car lineup and sometimes at least with another option available.

The list of manufacturers that tried CVTs and then abandoned them in favor of multi-speed traditional automatics is much longer than the list of those still using them.

    Like, so many.
I thought they were intentionally being a bargain brand. I don't even know the last time the Frontier was actually updated.

I've never been a fan of them and would be very hard pressed to even consider buying one.

I drove a 2000 Frontier desert runner up until may 2019. The truck was good to me and served its purpose but the lack of updates to the design in the last 10-15 years certainly steered me away from getting another.

They're just...boring. Any imagination ends after a concept is completed. Their commercials, at least for the longest time, were CGI trash. The Z is basically 20 years old on a legit 20 year old platform. The Frontier is 15 years old in the US, but they've had an update for it outside of US/Can for SIX YEARS. The UPDATE is due for an update.

They tease really cool vehicles but kill any chance of them going to production. They have shit design language with that weird D-pillar paint that has infected other manufacturers.

I have had 4 Nissans. They were pretty good vehicles. The most miles I put on one was about 90k, tho. My brother had a Nissan truck with high miles and little things like instruments started to give him trouble. As far as updates, that means little to me. Long term reliability is paramount IMO. The longer a company makes a particular model without changes, the more reliable it is likely to be. The bugs get worked out. The Ford Ranger of a few years back is a good example.

Wife bought an FX35, we got it last year and we want to get rid of it already. Just has a cheap feeling to it, parts are stupid expensive.
