Guys I’m going to be doing an engine swap in my 96. Just a quick question here for those who have done this. I’m not seeing anywhere to hook a strap or chain up top to pull the motor. Am I missing something? How did you guys do it, what’s safe to really hook around??? Thanks

you can buy the engine hooks from the dealer or do what I’ve done before which is take off the upper and lower intake plenum and lift out the engine by bolting the chain to the intake manifold.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
one hook is already on the engine (unless some on removed it) on the driver side
the other hook is sold at the dealer. its not too expensive. it goes where the power steering pump is. Buy it, it makes leveling the engine 10X easier

or you can bolt to the manifold like stated above.

while she is out take a good look, a VERY good look at the exhaust crossover between the cylinders. In later model Tacomas replacing this is ok, on the 96 it is just different enough and is difficult. At the same time pop the flywheel off and the separator plate and look at the core plugs in the block while you are there.
