I like how you can program a road trip route into the RT software and it automatically populates all of the repeaters along that route.

I was kinda looking at that one a while back, but it seems to have pretty low power.

Today I stumbled across a few Australian HF mobile transceivers and I wish I hadn’t.

That’s the Barrett 4050 and I really want one. It would fit in well on the dash of a third gen Tacoma.

Thanks, just drove into Moab to troubleshoot some SWR issues with a friend. The TNC is a homemade job. I don't think the bluetooth module is talking at the same baud rate as the microcontroller. That project will get addressed tonight.

They have a U.S. office. Wonder if they have any way to even distribute to amateurs. Looks like a really cool (and expensive!) radio.

I got my radio wired to the fuse box today after a week of new truck and having to dodge the cig lighter plug with the drink going in the drink holder. Got mic hanger installed so it is out of a cup holder unless I am using it. Waiting on hood hinge mount to get permanent antenna installed. Mag mount is a PITA every morning before work and remove before garage.

I clearly am missing the point on the whole clean install thing, but this motor mount has worked well for me and the garage. E705B414-641F-4CB4-B525-F02FBDBCE74C.jpg

Call sign? I'll check the log. We're running 3i, so I'm not the only op.

One of the guys tried js8 and was being a lid. They seem to like to experiment when it's not their call.

Meh. You're better off just programming the repeater pairs in CSQ and scan them. If the scan trips on a signal, then tone scan the output for the CTCSS. The output CTCSS usually matches the input CTCSS.

60% of the time, it works every time.

Am I crazy or is my new Larsen antenna jacked?

Chased down a transmit issue with a friend yesterday. The center post off the NMO mount dead ends inside the antenna. The threaded ground portion has full continuity to my antenna radiator. Sounds bass ackwards to me he loaned me a 2m antenna tuned to 150mhz and it is working much better though not ideal.

Figured out my TNC issues last night too. Now I'm on APRS.fi.

Bluetooth module comes set to 9600 baud but the microcontroller tries to tank to it at 38400 baud. A couple jumper wires and an AT command later, everything works fine.

Barrett usually makes radios for military, NGOs, first responders and that sort of user. Wouldn't surprise me if they list at $5k (I dunno, just a WAG) but the price is all dependent on the contract.

Same as Harris, Thales, Rohde & Schwartz, Codan, Collins, BAE, etc. To me this seems to be in the same market as the Motorola/Mobat Micom radios and used (when they come up anyway) they still go for $2k and those you see are typically decades-old analog designs and not SDR ones.

Truth is we'd be much better off buying an Icom IC-7300 at 1/5 the price (or less). Won't be a ruggedized radio or as nice but on the air it would be the same.

If you get stuck let me know. I’ve got the same radio and software. The nifty guide helps a lot when on the road or with initial setup stuff.
