trailer tail lights stopped working. Connector is broken! How to fix?

I know this is a Tacoma forum (and I have one)
but figured you guys might know, and supposedly the plug system works the same way on the Tacoma too

it's on a GM; the trailer towing lights (brake lights/tail lights on the trailer) don't work.
I found out the fuses are fine (checked them) but at the rear bumper plug, the connector behind it was loose. It doesn't lock in place fully because the locking tab on it is broken.
The connector is plastic so it probably needs to be replaced (connector housing)

eBay has one for $20 but the seller suggests it be crimped on I believe. Which seems not as good as replacing the existing connector housing (broken) and re-using stock wires, by de-pinning it.


Anyone ever dealt with this?

The broken connector is normally supposed to plug/click into this, the actual plug:

The connector in the 1st pic is an industry standard connector used on Dodge, Ford, and Chevy. That connector plugs into the part in the 2nd pic. That part in the 2nd pic has 2 steel tabs that make it just snap right into the mount. I actually bought that type of trailer connector at Autozone for my Tacoma. I bought it because it has both 7 way and flat 4 connectors. I also bought a mounting bracket from Autozone. I had to get the wiring pigtail from etrailer.com since 2nd gen Tacos don’t use that universal connector.

 

I think it might be GM oem part number 15306164,
or AC Delco part number

Here is an actual pic, which seems to look different from the $20 eBay connector
the grey part behind the black main body of the connector housing protrudes farther on the vehicle than the one in the eBay part it seems



the OEM one (if part number is correct) appears to have more stuff protruding from the black part

 

That does look very different than the industry standard parts that you posted in your 1st pic. Sorry, I can’t help you with that. Don’t know what your GM uses.
