I miss my old 2000 TJ that I originally bought for my ex.

It made great multitudes of trips from FL to Ohio. I had it around 13 or 14 years, and only replaced the coil pack. Those 4.0 straight sixes are tough motors.

Was my daily driver for a couple years. Got kinda warm in the FL summers with no factory AC.

Toyota should bring back the FJ40, not some pudgy sorta-FJ like the last one, it needs to be closer to the original. Then add a 4-door version to subsidize my 2-door.

i know the double cabs and wagons would sell here, stick the 3UR in it and it would probably need some extra airbags for safety standards. I would love one, if that ever happened tho I’d be afraid of soccer moms getting hip to them and getting Toyota to ifs it lol rip g wagen

Little late, but to everyone talking about XJs earlier .... Remember, they are NOT body on frame. You twist it, it's broke.

Cool vehicles though. Miss my '94. Bought it as a present to me on my 21st. Stolen 4 months later by a guy with a flatbed tow truck.

Cops found it, wrecked, tore up pretty badly. Whole front end was destroyed, not a bit of intact glass or rubber left. Asked me if I wanted it back.

Exactly. The J6 concept they had at EJS was pretty cool too.

We all talk about Wranglers being more capable off-road, which is totally true, but based on my anecdotal evidence, the number of Wranglers that go on those crazy Wrangler-only trails is very low.

I was in a Jeep club for years, and every single Jeep there was modified and could handle very hard trails. We would go monthly off-road, but whenever we faced a tough trail, or a rock garden, about 90% would go around.

To put it differently, in my personal experience even most modified Jeepers who wheel regularly still don't use them to their full capabilities. Youtube is full of Jeeps doing crazy stuff, but that's not representative of the community I was in.

Why bother with a Jeep then?

As far as driving topless and doorless... it's a matter of preference. Personally I like AC, a truly wonderful invention (not like freaking twitter or fb, but I'm digressing). I don't like the sun beating up on me for hours, and I like a little less noise in the cabin. I also don't like the fine moon dust of the desert in my lungs and every tiny corner of the cabin.

We just started with the JT's. Who knows what might transpire in the next couple years.
I'll trade my JLUR in a second for a shorter cab, longer bed JT.

I don't know why you're bragging about 17k miles trouble free. It better be holding up at 17k miles. Lets see what happens when you hit 100k

Not bragging. Stating facts with the known issues of this model.

Obvious my concern is the 2018 was the changeover model.

Same here. I have a superduty 4door as well as my JKU because of the roominess (and having two kids still in car seats).. BUT if I was looking for the Gladiator for just a off road or work truck, i would want the extended cab over the 4 door. Dont get me wrong, I really do like the look of the new gladiator, but I love the look of it as an extended cab way more than the current 4 door.
