I’ve purchased a used 2014 Tacoma with 35’s. How do I know if it’s been regeared already?

Currently I have 35” tires on the new to me Tacoma. My question is how do I know if it has been regeared? How do I know what it’s been regeared to? If it helps at all I’m currently running about 1800 RPM at 60MPH.

It hasn’t been regeared if you’re at 1800 at 60 I don’t think, I don’t remember what my auto ran at that speed stock but that sounds low. Also for 35’s a majority of people over gear their truck slightly to have the extra torque for the added weight of the tires.

Great thank you for the reply. I have plans to build out and would like to start with the gears if it hasn’t yet been done. I do a lot of freeway driving with the mountains of the PNW on the weekends. I think a regear may be the best starting point unless there are some folks here that have some other good advice for me. I know 35’s are excessive, but I like them. Fenders and cab mount work to follow.

Put a floor jack under the rear axle on 1 side. Jack it up so 1 tire is off the ground. Put the transmission in neutral. Have someone turn the tire exactly 2 turns while you count the driveshaft revolutions. If you count 3 3/4 revolutions, the truck hasn’t been regeared.

    Oh welcome btw!

also how are they fitting without a cmc and pinch weld beat down? Does it have a drop bracket?

Just an assumption but if you still need to do some fabrication to run 35s properly, I highly doubt the PO spent the money to regear. What kind of lift does it have? Please post some pics and welcome to TW!

Google 'whats my gear ratio' and you'll get methods similar to what @Muddinfun stated that will reveal what you have.

Before doing any gear work I'd drop to 33", assuming you don't have a functional need for 35's.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the advice! Sorry for the delay in pics. I fell asleep early last night. I bought a mall crawler with the intent of slowly transitioning to a weekend warrior. The truck is in great shape, and the price was right, but I know I’ve got some work to do to get it truly mountain ready. I’ve read a lot here about 33’s vs 35’s. I’m a month or so away from either a regear and fabrication to fit the 35’s or a regear and 33’s. I do like the 35’s and wonder if I would regret not just doing the work to make them fit. How much do you all think a shop would charge for the fabrication work? Pics are on the way!
