I posted a thread like this about 4 years ago but here is an overall update on what my 2011 4 door 4WD Automatic Base level Tacoma Costs to have:

Purchased Brand New in November 2011, $28,500 CAD

Currently 8.24 years old and 166,717 km (103533 miles) on the odometer.

Total gas put in is 20,982 Litres (5,543 US Gallons)
Total Cost of Fuel is $21,695 CAD which equals $0.13 per km driven (Average fuel price over those 8 years is $1.03 CAD/L or $2.97 USD/ US Gallon) based on todays exchange rates.

Total Cost of Maintenance (Fluid changes, new tires, car washes, mechanical work, etc) $5,699 CAD which equals $0.03 per km driven

Total Cost of Insurance is $12,834 CAD which equals $0.08 per km driven

Total Cost of Depreciation using the: FV=PV*(1-(%depreciation/100))^number of years and assuming 9% depreciation factor made the cost of depreciation equal $15,394 CAD which equals $0.09 per km driven.

So in total it cost me around $55,621 CAD or $0.334 per km driven to drive the truck for those 8.24 years.

What does everyone think of having a 9% depreciation rate in the formula. I put lower then average because these Tacomas seem to have high resale value. Even with the 9% it is saying I could sell my truck today for $13,100 CAD which I think is a good deal based on local Canadian Ads for same year and similar mileage as it is well below average posted price.

Anyways enjoy these stats if you are a data nerd.

Very nice, but those kind of numbers scare me. I’d rather not keep track of what I spent on things. Especially when you consider that those costs don’t include mods.

Oh yeah it is a lot of money but I keep track of it all on a google sheet. For me if I added mods to the costs it would only be a couple more 1000 because I only have added a ARE topper on my truck but everything else is pretty much stock. I am impressed of how little money maintenance costs are for this truck. Will jump for me in the next couple of years as I want new suspension and probably should look at doing brakes soon.

I could tell you what the total number of repairs & their cost for my 2008 Tacoma with 90K miles:

Brake light bulb, $5 for a pair, now have 1 spare.
Headlight bulb, $25 for a pair, replaced both headlight bulbs. (lost one low beam filament)

So repairs have cost me ~$30 over 12 years. Go Toyota!

Cool stats, like seeing this stuff. 5600 does seems pretty heavy though, especially if that is only for basic maintence items.

Those are essentially the items I repaired too. Plus replaced battery once and replaced one idler pulley. Then the rest is regular maintenance stuff like spark plugs, fluid changes, etc.

Yeah maintenance cost tab of my spreadsheet is broken down into the categories:
    Fluids Change Costs
    Repair Work
    Car Wash
    Tires

Of that $5600 just $1,027 was for new tires at 75,000 km.

Fuelly (website) and aCar (android app). I've spent $16,748.38 on 6,192.47 gallons for the 83,227 miles since I started tracking mileage Dec 1, 2012. That's an average of $2.42 a gal and 13.474 MPG.

I won't share the other costs as they hurt my feelings and having the truck in the shop to have the fender and radiator supports replaced is not helping.

I didn't mention it in my original post but my avg gas mileage was 19.3 mpg with the original 245/75R16 Dunlop tires then since putting on the C rated 265/75R16 Duratracs it has been 18.2 mpg. The new tires mpg is calculated with a new calibration factor for the odometer based on several GPS distance comparisons to odometer readings for accuracy of course.

The IRS allows $0.57 US per mile. So 57 x 103,533 miles = $59,013 USD

    1 USD to 1.32 Can = $77,838 Can :canada:

Yeah my workplace mileage rate for reimbursement if used for work travel in 2019 was as follows:
    • $0.58 per kilometre for the first 5,000 kilometres driven for business purposes in the calendar year
    • $0.52 per kilometre for all kilometres over 5,000 driven for business purposes in the calendar year
So almost pocketing $0.25 per kilometer if using my truck for work.

My MPG and miles have not been calculated to reflect the 285/75R16 that most of it's miles have been on, so it's off by about 8%

Yeah welcome to Alberta Canada. On average $127.03 CAD per month. And that is with perfect driving record, no accidents, no speeding tickets, no claims. How is it in the states or other Canadian Provinces for Tacomas?

My Taco is older, less everything compared to yours. I have full coverage but not best options that my INS company has to offer (Esurance). I'm paying $178USD /mo combined for my 98' BMW M3 + the Tacoma (12' Mazda I'm covered thru my wife's INS). Both full coverage with Glass coverage and roadside assistance. $1500 comp deductible. I haven't switched companies in a long time so it could be cheaper. Been about 6 years since I've gotten a speeding ticket. long while since an accident.

Dont go there with cell data. The fact I spend about $2000/year so my family can check email, send messages and surf FB when away from wifi drives me crazy.
