Seeing this security issue makes me feel better about today. I recently changed my fuel pump resistor because I had seen where that was causing this issue. Then today I left my keys in the ignition when I got to work and the truck wouldn’t crank when I went to lunch. Had to unhook the battery and reset the computer. Hopefully that’s all it was and I don’t still have an issue.

    Hi guys,
I just had the same issues on my Tacoma. Started for 2-3 seconded then died. Then would try again, the starter would spin but no ignition. Tried MAF cleaning without success. It was the Fuel pump in my case. You can funnel your hand on top of the tank and plug/unplug the pump quite easily. Did that, shake it up a few times and it worked again. So ended-up replacing the fuel pump and problem fixed. So just for diagnostic purposes... when you turn the key, if you listen carefully, you can hear the pump getting powered. It does a little ''clic''. So if you have the issues, either have a friend listening right by the tank as you turn the key see if you hear something. If not, fuel pump is done.

They are quite cheap and somewhat easy to change. Hope that helps!

I experienced the same problem with my 2007 SR5 V6. The truck would start up, and then die a few seconds later. The problem came out of nowhere while driving on the highway, the truck just shut off. No CEL present, so it made diagnostics that much harder. I started troubleshooting step by step, using the problem symptoms table in the factory repair manual. I got to the FUEL PUMP RESISTOR, and found the fault, an open circuit inside the resistor. The resistance should be between .70 and .76 ohms between the two pins on the component side of the connector, as stated in the manual. I then jumped the plug with a paper clip and it fired right up! Replaced the part, and away I went. Hope this helps someone out!
