Surisingly not even any moisture in the crawl space. Also interestingly is, it’s part of the city that’s on some steeps.

 

Also put in new fan/heater/light...first one, what a PIA those are to change...

 

^^^posted that December 22nd, guess what? I went out Sunday to our camper to make sure we didn't have any leaks where I caulked some a while back and guess what was laying in the camper? My hammer and thin pry bar, now I have 2...whoops

 

working in commercial flooring where the vapor barriers under the slab are mandatory. They're worthless and the slabs are still wet. Typical RH of the slab with vapor barriers under the slab are 90-99%.

 

also to keep with this topic, hung my TV on the wall and tucked wires in the wall. While running my wires i found a cross 2x4 between the studs and grabbed my flex bit to drill it out for the wires to pass. The bit walked and went through my hall bathroom wall, not once but twice.

So i spent the weekend cutting and patching that. Spraying the texture on the repair tonight then painting it tomorrow.

 

i need to add a ceiling vent fan for my master bathroom. It has a window which i swapped to an efficient double hung window for easier venting for the size of the window. But the bathroom is a damp fog every shower. I need to do something before it destroys the walls.

 

huh , sounds like nobody knows how to install them properly where you are

its been minimum code requirement here for a taped and sealed 6mil vapour barrier under slabs for 20+ years and I've never had an issue with moisture migration through a cured slab that has had one . On our current job we had extreme water issues and opted for a 15mil Stegowrap vapour barrier , zero problems

i wouldnt put it past other trades being idiots and either drilling through the slab into the vapor barrier or just other trades being stupid.

80% of the jobs we install need a moisture system on the surface of the slab for flooring manufacturer warranty because the testing exceeds their RH limits.

 

Ok looking for advice. Doing the baseboards, and I’m new to this, and I’ve hit a spot I’m not sure what to do. This window by the door is “inset” a little bit so when I put the baseboard along the wall there is a gap behind it. What do I do here? For the trim around the window I planned to replace it all so ignore where it’s cut off, just help me out with the baseboard issue please and thank you. Maybe these pictures show the issue...

 

is it thin line 1/8"? id run to Home Depot and pick up one of the pre cut 1/8" sheet panel and cut to fit behind it. Cut just below the base height so when you caulk the top itll blend and look seamless.

 

It’s a bit over 1/2” actually. I thought about just putting a piece behind it, but that gives it a sort of “shelf” look I think, didn’t know if I could avoid that.

wow thats bigger than i thought. Not sure what else you can do without creating the shelf look though. Im sure someone may have another idea!

 

Yeah I’m at a loss for other options. I hate that the window is set back in like that but I really don’t want to replace it lol. I’d rather live with the shelf of a baseboard.
