    Nope.

I didn't have any gaps. It fit perfectly.

What kit(s) did you use? Is this the Scosche kit you accidentally hacked through? :) https://www.amazon.com/SCOSCHE-TA21...ting+kit+toyota+tacoma&qid=1580225806&sr=8-13

The bottom of the head unit being further back than the top compared to the trim. That was what I was referring to.

I didn't so much hack through it as I tried to use the wrong tool and partially destroyed the tool upon kickback. The Metra kit is plastic and much easier to work with. Since that website doesn't care about the mounting brackets not being included, I'm going to fab up something better. Trying to get the Metra brackets mounted just right is a PITA, and causes the head unit to shift toward the passenger side.

Damn. I decided I'd pull the trigger on this today... and it's out of stock on the Joying website and Amazon. Gonna shoot Joying an email to see if they'll have more in stock. He who hesitates is lost...

I’m likely going to pick up some aluminum to fab up something redneck for the mounting brackets, give a bit better fit than I’ve been getting. Stay tuned.

Interested to see what you do. I'm assuming my install is going to take a while, as my OCD won't let me stop until it's sitting perfectly. I've also found myself perusing headliner removal posts, thinking about running the mic up to the factory location. But not sure I'm going to try to tackle that all in one go.

My only worry about this purchase is whether it'll come with the canbus. I pulled the trigger when I saw there was only one unit left. I'd made my mind up that this is the one I want to go with, I didn't want to let it pass and then find it impossible to locate more stock anytime soon. But that listing doesn't specify anything about whether it comes with the canbus. I've contacted them to see. :notsure:

I'm scouting purchasing one as well... I think you're in good shape with the one you purchased being a CANBUS model. If you scroll down to the section with the photos and look for "Purchase Guidance".

For the CANBUS Version, it states "Attention: If your original car center console is like below (with a bigger screen), then you can make this order."

For Non-CANBUS Version, it states "Attention: if your original car center console is like below (without a screen or with a small screen), then you can make this order. (Check out this listing for an example of a Non-CANBUS version - https://www.ebay.com/itm/JOYING-9-I...uetooth-4GB-RAM/323776885825?epid=22031839769)

Exactly right. Match the pic and you are good to go.

Did have another start up reboot today. Something to keep an eye on.

Sony XAV5000 is amazing. Resolution is much better in person. I’ve never had any issues with mine.

How are you feeling about your Joying unit after having it for a couple of weeks? I'm still waiting for mine. The ebay purchase was cancelled, they reached out to say that the stock was entered incorrectly, they had none of the CANBUS models in stock so they cancelled the sale and refunded me. They had me order it from the Chinese factory, which they said wouldn't ship until the 10th at the earliest due to the holiday. Still not entirely sure when it'll get here.

Has yours gotten any easier or harder to live with?

    A bit, yes.

I haven't had any additional reboots to this point. The zlink app kinda sucks in a way. If all you want to use is CarPlay, you'll be fine. If you want to switch between Android and CarPlay, the non-CarPlay sound dips for anywhere from 15-30 seconds each time you go into CarPlay. It's really fucking annoying, but my method to solve this was to put a spare SIM in and use CarPlay when I wanted to stream Pandora, Android when I wanted to stream anything else. I use the Waze app on either depending. A workaround.

Otherwise, I love it each and every time I get in the truck.

Good to know, thanks. Yeah, from a purely selfish perspective I’m glad the only issue seems to be switching between the two systems. I’m sorry it’s causing you issues but I likely should be ok.

Now I just play the waiting game. Looks like I’ll be waiting until sometime in March, for the time being everyone’s home because of coronavirus, so they’re responding to emails but obviously the warehouse isn’t staffed. At least, fingers crossed I’m not waiting any longer: not so much because I’m that anxious for the stereo, but if it’s delayed much more than that, it’ll mean the virus is still so rampant the government is still keeping people home to prevent contagion.

The one thing that really pisses me off is how much of a dumpster fire is GPM for CarPlay. If that were a functioning app, there'd really be no issue. Think I'm going to send an email to both Joying and Zjinnova today to see if anyone else has complained. I can't find anything at all on the internet of any other complaints.

I'm running the AutoKit dongle and it works great. I saw someone use a USB splitter to double the power to the dongle but I haven't needed to do that yet.

Mine finally arrived the other day. A little wary of anything coming from China at the moment, but it was in transit for a week and i let it sit in my garage for another couple of days before I installed it. Loving it so far, still have to do a little more fab work on the brackets, running into the same issues as you did. It's sitting well enough for me to put up with for now, but I'll definitely be figuring out a slightly better solution long-term.

    Three stupid questions:
    • First, how did you map your compass button to Carplay? I mean, I've found the menu to assign functionality to those buttons, and I understand how to map the buttoms, but I can't for the life of me figure out which option represents CarPlay/Zlink. There isn't an obvious such option in my menu, and everything I've tried has been wrong so far.
    • When I try to change the home launcher (from within the factory settings), it asks for another pin code... when I enter the same factory pin code that allows me to get into the factory settings menu in the first place, it just sits there and does nothing. Am I missing something
    • Finally, where is the audio setting to disable the "beep every time you touch the screen" thing?
Apologies, all three of those questions are likely things I'll figure out as I spend more time reading the manual, re-reading all the forum posts I read two months ago when deciding to buy this damn thing, and just playing around with it, but hoping you may have already dealt with them all.

Looking forward to spending the coming weeks playing around with this thing, but so far... good Lord, wireless carplay in a Tacoma. How it should have come from the factory.
