Looking for successfully mounted/modified ladder or kayak racks (have been looking at trying to do Yakima Outdoorsman 300, have read it takes some tricks to make work on 3rd gen.) or something similar, in conjunction with SoftTopper that allows it to collapse as designed. Where do you have them positioned allowing the SoftTopper to collapse to the cab without having to remove it, collapse it, and re-install as collapsed? Seems to be the case with many racks I've seen recommended, or per instructions from SoftTopper. Have been digging through forums and can't find success stories, wondering if the holy grail is out there.

There are only three ways to make this work and none are really ideal.

    1. Put one bar in front of the softopper and one behind it. But this is impossible since you run out of bed space. The front bar would have to be mounted to the roof of the cab. You might be able to get the rear one mount far enough back if you made a special bracket, but still not ideal.

    2. Make the rack so tall that the softopper can fold up under it. With the way the softopper collapses, the rack would have to be very tall.

    3. Instead of removing the crossbars, pull the pins on the softopper hinge. Slide the hinge off the pin. This lets it down into the bed. You might then be able to fold it with the bars positioned in a more favorable way. Still sucks though.
