I had a 2014 Tacoma DCSB 4x4 Sport was wrecked, and prior to giving it to my insurance company, I took the tires and rims off since the tires were literally brand new. Once I was told that my truck was totaled out, I immediately placed an order for a 2020 Tacoma DCSB 4x4 Sport. It's my understanding that the rims will fit without any issues but I just saw a post on here about TPMS sensors and it got me thinking. Will the 2014 TPMS sensors work on a 2020 truck. Thoughts?

Should, as longer they are supporting Frequency - 315 MHz.
Also you would need sensors IDs, may need to open the tire to get them.
Need techstream or pay the shop to add those ids to ecu

2nd Gen TPMS WILL NOT WORK on a 3rd Gen. Totally different system etc.

Could you elaborate on the difference?
I just built 2nd wheel set and was shopping for tpms and I saw overlap in fitment for 2nd and 3rd gen and I used 2nd gen tmps programming procedure on mine.
More to that, my other 2012 toyota uses the same principle. Transmitting psi, temp and location

Steel wheels and alloy wheels use different sensors as well.

You dash display may not display pressure, but you need to look at ECU level.
Same principle in 2nd gen. FCC transmitter sends signal on 315 Mhz with sensor ID.
Sensor ID must exist in ECU. After that, ECU registers psi, temp(if transmitted) figures location of the sensor. Ecu has limits set to trigger low pressure.
