That's a good call. I might do a little bit of snow camping but it'll be by far the exception to the rule - I'm not a follow-the-snow snowboarder or anything, where I agree that would be really important. I've got a Mr Heater I expect will be fine for now on chilly nights/mornings, and could always look into one of the diesel heaters I see @excorcist has been running in time if necessary.

Speaking of Prescott @Shellshock , any real bad/good experiences with installers? I am in Salt Lake City often for business so I was thinking of going with Equipt if I pull the trigger, but Prescott wouldn't be too bad of a drive.

I had mine done at AT - they are in Prescott. It only took an hour or so and they started right on time. I watched the full install and they had me double check how they had it centered before they drilled mounting holes in mine (Mine is drilled through the bedsides instead of bolting into bed rails). I was happy with the process and install. After it was done we went through everything and they answered any questions I had.

I had no issue with Equipt either. They were nice enough to loan me their truck to go grab breakfast while they put mine together. Had the Habitat in the air on a forklift waiting for my truck when I got there at opening.

dry and dust free if it's done right lol, I had to get a lot of spray in silicon to get it to that point, and still a lot of dust gets trough the rear gate even with a carpet kit and rubber weather-strips all over the gate.

it was fairly easy on my tundra. Just sealed the tailgate and it’s been fine. The Tacoma, I gave up trying to keep dust out lol

Honestly it has more holes in it that i could count lol no joke. For sure I miss the V8 power too but that's only until I get out on the trails and I realize I'm glad to have a smaller truck.

Definitely. Sometimes it’s been a bit tight with the tundra. The taco feels like a go cart after driving the tundra around

Ive got a silky katanaboy that’s always in the truck. Ive used it to trim quite a bit of stuff that’s fallen and blocked trails or for firewood at camp.

I’ve also got a Stihl 271 that I’ll take with on occasion but I’ve never needed to use it.

Highly recommend a diesel heater if you're going to be in cold weather. Wish I would have bought it when I first got the habitat. The buddy heater was fine, but the moisture in the morning was not. With the hot dry air from the diesel heater the ceiling is dry in the morning now.

I agree with what the others have said. I myself wouldn't trade the habitat for any of the pop up models. The space is too useful. When the weather is inclement moving the kitchen inside on the shelf over the cab is really nice, and your bed can still be made and ready to crawl in. Thats just one example, we are ALWAYS using the extra space. It is also very easy to close once you get your system down, We move pretty much every morning, and never worried about packing up.

No leak - propex was working well and kicking out a lot of heat. Mounted outside in an aluminum box, with intake from the Habitat, so not sucking in cold air from outside. Spoke with Mario or Martyn when I was at NW Overland Rally and a few other folks about heating the Habitat and the problem is that it is a big space with no insulation.

What is the BTU output of your diesel heater and how do you have it set up? Pics would be helpful if you have them. As I said, love the Habitat and would be glad to keep it if I can find a way to keep it warm in very cold temps.

I am 6'2" and after the first time i scraped my back, i bitched so much that I built a full floor and climb in through the side doors now. I did buy a ladder but I normally just step on my HC bumper and jump in.

Keep in mind, it is still a tent and you are still camping so there is no substitute for a good down sleeping bag.. especially winter camping. I use a zero degree with a liner and have been toasty at -4 degrees here in Colorado. I dont have a heater because I like to keep it simple. Person preference there. However, quality essential gear should be number one before the extras imo

Overall, I love my habitat! Spent over 60 nights in 2019. AT stands behind their product. Ive had no major issues except for the crack up front but AT fixed it free of charge.

Agreed. Good bags make all the difference.

I’ve got a 20 degree enlightened equipment down quilt and picked up a 40 degree synthetic earlier this year. Gives me options across temps and when it’s cold gets you plenty of warmth below zero. Also a synthetic outer bag is nice if you get some condensation.

Have one. Too fat to fit comfortably.

I’ve been using quilts for a while. I doubt I’ll ever go back to a sleeping bag.

Military surplus modular sleep system? Those look like sleeping bags inside sleeping bags. I am sure i could put my 20* bag inside my 0* bag. ha
