What’s the best air gauge?

So I’m in the market for a new one. What do you guys use?

 

I literally was just asking myself what is a good pressure gauge as I have like 6 of them and they all read different. I log in and your right on the top of recent posts. I have two cheapos. Two analog, one digital and the one on my inflator. One I just used reads 24psi and dash on my Caddy says 32ps . Lol

 

Mine is decades old and still doing the job.

 

I’m in the same boat, a bunch of the cheap pencil style and the broken one. The broken one is at least 20 years old and has spent its life in the glove box of several vehicles, so no complaints there.

 

As long as the reading is close and consistent, the absolute reading isn’t that important. I fill to e.g., 32 PSI and then adjust by the drive feeling.

 

I have 2 or 3 pencil gauges also but my Accu-gage is the one I almost always use.

I rotate my tires at every 5K oil change, and I check tread depth to ensure even wear. I'll adjust tire pressure as needed.

 

I have 2 Powertank inflator gauges - one analog and the other digital. I also have a Longacre analog gauge on my multi tire inflator. Longacre is very popular with the race crowd. My go to gauge is the digital Powertank inflator.

Mines almost 20, heavily used when I auto crossed, still works well. Comes in a variety of configurations.

 

For those folks who can't leave well enough alone (like myself, I'm a hopeless tinkerer), the best air chuck I've found is the

Haltec H-5265 (closed). It's far superior to clip on ball chucks and the European style clip on. It is available in an "open" style but it's more difficult to find and is more expensive (no idea why).

 

have you recorded the wear? so that you know what you started with, where your at now ect.....
i'm just curious as I sorta half ass did this with my current tires. My idea was to have a log, and I'd be able to graph out the depth to see how quickly they were wearing.

 

Oh you got the invisible needle mod! Ive been using this one for about 2 years now. No complaints. Good resolution.

Yes, I have a notebook that I use to record all my maintenance including tire tread depth. Among other things, it helps me know how much life I got from each set of tires.

EDIT: I got curious so I checked. The OEM GY Rugged Trails lasted ~32K miles and were replaced with Cooper AT-Rs. Only got 18K miles out of the Coopers. Next up was Michelin LTX AT2 which still had 6/32" tread after more than 41K miles. With winter storms in the forecast, I scrapped the Michelins for my current GY UltraTerrains which have proven to be incredible in snow. Only a few thousand miles on them so far.

 

Shopping for one myself. Had one of the cheap stick type gauges and last time I checked my air it shot the white "gauge" part into the next county! That kinda stuff just ticks me off! I mean I'm pretty sure I paid almost two bucks for the thing and it only lasted like ten years. Just can't get good tools anymore...

 

Longacre. I think that’s my gauge. I bought it when I was religiously checking tire pressures when I was doing track days with my little German car.
Cars gone, gauge is still with me.
