I am planning on purchasing the Muth signal mirrors with the heating module. My question is can I use a dash switch from the dealer (P/N 00550-35976) to control the heating element. I don't want to use the switch that comes with the mirrors, I want a more stock look. I have not purchased the mirrors yet, I was hoping someone out there is familier with these mirrors and can tell me if this is possible. Not sure if the switch that comes with the mirrors has anything special built in to control the amount of time the heat is on to know when to turn off the heat. I hope the switch to control the heating element is a simple on/off switch.

I finally ordered my mirrors with the heating element. Found a deal on ToyotaNation from 2006 from Brandnewauto.com. Contacted Rob (website contact person) to see if he would hold the price for me. We worked it out and the mirrors with heating element was ordered for $275 including shipping. http://www.brandnewus.com/toyotanation.htm
If anyone else is interested he said he would honor the price.

Installed my mirrors today with the heating element. I have a question on wiring up the switch. I want to use a stock switch iinstead of the switch that comes with the mirrors. The instructions indicated the red wire to terminal 1, orange wire to terminal 2 and the blue wire to terminal 3 on the switch. The instructions identify the 3 terminals on the switch, my questions is, how do I find out what terminals on the stock switch these wire go to. I hope i explained my question clearly for everyone. Thanks for the help.

Glad you found the deal with Rob that I posted over at TN. If you put both switches side by side and use a meter you should be able to see how they both switch and match up the connections.

Thanks Kneebiter for the help, got it to work. Now I have another question. I would like to use one of the push switches that are in the 08's. The push switch would look stock, more so the the toggle. Does anyone know if any of the push switches would work with the heated mirrors. I have a fog light switch and that does not work. My truck does not have any of the options that require the switches.

what about one of these - the "momentary" one? thats what i was thinking and i'm also planning to install those same heated mirrors and trying this switch

I'm not an expert on these mirrors, but I would guess that a momentary switch is probably not what you want. I would think that a latching switch (like a toggle) would be better suited. That way you could turn them on and they would stay on until you turned the switch off. However, I do not know the specifics of these mirrors, so I'm not sure how good my advice is. At the very least, I would replace the switch with the same type (momentary or latching) as it comes with.

I thought the momentary switch would work since the muth heated kit comes with a timer circuit and just needs power to be activated (i think?) and runs for a set period of time. otherwise for sure you'd want a switch to control them on and off but i'd rather have them shut off automatically if possible. who knows, i shouldn't be posting about it cuz i don't even have it!

That is the type of switch I have now. I want to try a switch stock to the 08 Tacoma.

That's pretty cool if they've got a timer circuit on it. I looked at the website from the link earlier in the thread, but I couldn't tell from their description. I'm more interested in them now that I know that. I had these stock on the Pathfinder I used to have. I think they were on all the time, or at least automatically with temp. No switch to turn them on or off. Worked great in the cold weather, especially in wet blowing snow.

standard OEM on/off rocker. After 10 minutes the heating unit switches off. Want to use the stock push in type switch that are in the 08's.

this h-mod thing controls the timer. i'm thinking the momentary switch could be used to fire the timer

I'm wondering if the momentary switch works similar to the push button switch where it always stays in the same position but just would fire the timer. If anybody has one - can you comment? I agree the ultimate would be a push button switch like the 08s have but this might be a good alternative

The mirrors are great. To activate the heating unit you flip the switch, the light comes on and in 10 minutes the switch will flash and shut off. Turn the switch off and back on again for another 10 minutes.

I have a fog light switch out of a 08, can't figure out how to make it work. It has 4 terminals on the back. The terminals are smaller than standard terminals on the 3 terminal switches.
