Lets not forget to high gas pressure can cause interesting things .

    Some wire just splatters more

    Got the wrong gas mix

If the cylinder sits to long the Argon and Co2 do tend to separate nothing like putting the cap on and rolling it around the shop .

Fill plants have these cool machines that spin the cylinders up right .

So many things you just correct and don`t think about .

I recommend test fitting the appropriate bolt in each one before final weld onto the truck. Occasionally you’ll find that it’s a hair too close together and has to be widened. Much easier off the truck.

No code. Mostly 1/4" mild steel or smaller like shock mounts, tubing. I want to make sure the next welder i get is sufficient enough to penetrate maybe 1/2? for some recovery points into bumpers. I don't want to be buying another mig in a few years lets put it that way. Wont be used but a few hours a month. Under $1000.

The titanium mig 170 from Harbor freight would fit that bill. I have the 140, which is their 110v version and I've done a lot with it. The 170 is their 110/220 version so you could pump up the heat if needed. Or maybe their vulcan offering, but haven't looked at that price before.

Thanks, always sceptical of buying a bigger tool from HF. I like 110/220 for portability. Price is right! Guess ill be taking a trip to HF to take a look.

At least you're open to it. I was skeptical of my green guy just because they were so new to market, and not much info on them. So I bought a 2 year warranty for an extra $60. The employees there don't get paid enough to care so if there's ever any issues (or even if I were to lie and say it stopped working), I would just bring in the broken one and leave with a new one. One year in though and going strong.

I've been lurking on this thread for a while and this made me jump in. Be careful with Amazon if it's "Prime" the you can take it back no problem. If it's purchased through a 2nd source vendor then you have to deal with them directly for returns. I got burned on a set of kayak racks that were super cheap (approx. $25). They fit so poorly that they were useless. Tried to return them and the vendor happily said I could ship them back. Return shipping would have cost more than the stupid things were worth. So I was out $25. Not a huge loss in the grand scheme of things and a cheap way to learn a valuable lesson.

First laying down/overhead welding. I'm satisfied, I got burned, sparks falling on my face/helmet. Good times Yes the truck was jacked, but still.

I think it was a mixture of everything haha. Most likely gun angle too. It was a windy day so I did turn the gas up a bit higher than normal too.

I did not know that the gas could separate. Learn something new every day.

Burned in a set of these Marlin crawler cam tab/lca mount gussets on a different truck.

    I'm not sure you did...

I think we may have some confusion.

Accetaline cutting torch gas is different than bi mix cover gas.

I hope Craig will correct me and add details.

I did some searching and some say the gas does indeed separate, and they said to roll the bottle around to remix the gas.
