Mobil 1 is popular because it's a household name and readily available for cheap. Cheapness also typically suggests poor quality,
and Mobil 1 is said to be watery thin as well as staining engine internals with a yellow coat of varnish.

The type of people who don't perform their own oil changes are the type of people who would pay a butler to spoon-feed them cereal in the morning.

    Motul is probably better.
I haven't found any deals on it lately. Once I bought it for like $12 a jug. Now they're usually like $45.
Supposedly it's capable of cleaning safely and slowly, similar to Shell Rotella T6, but T6 is a 5w40 and the truck calls for 5w30. I think for fuel economy reasons.
So I don't know if it's technically safe to run a different weight at the cost of some MPG due to resistance from the viscosity.

Anything but Quaker State. I always remember, appx. 15 yrs. ago their adds saying to change your oil every 3000 mi. For me any oil that won't last more than 3000 mi. I don't want it in anything I own.

Sure...why not, I'll jump in on this one!
Just change mine today in fact! OEM Toyota filter and Penzoil conventional 5w 30 or equivalent whatever is on sale. no need to change crush washers... have the fumoto valve. While waiting for the oil to drain...cussed out the neighbours dog and lubricated my drive train (zeros)
Now sitting back and having a couple of cold pops and planing for the next project...
    Cheers Team TW

I use Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic with an OEM filter every 5000 miles. I get my filters from the dealer for $5.41 with a crush washer thrown in.

Mobil 1 is factory fill on over 70 different models of new cars including Porsche that’s good enough for me. Concerning doing your own maintenance, sometimes it may depend of physical condition. Mobil was big oils answer to Amsoil.

I use Castrol GTX High Mileage 10W-30 Synthetic Blend Motor Oil, because my trucks are always old and this is what I've used for the past ten years and it hasn't let me down. I imagine most of the recommendations on here are equally biased.

I've used various filters, but I keep coming back to FRAM because... when I was a wee lad, that is what my step-dad used! In reality, if you change your filter regularly, it doesn't matter. Sometimes, I just pick the highest rated thing on A.m.a.z.o.n. Sometime I go back to FRAM.

    I just love ORANGE!

I was just making the point that clean oil is better than dirty oil. As long as it met the manufacturers specifications.
Some people believe that the more money you spend, the better the oil has to be.
But you are absolutely correct. I myself wouldn't buy a completely unknown name brand. But my wording was very poor in that regard.

Here’s what mine looked like at my last oil change. Truck has 60,000mi. This was an 11k interval. Mobel 1 with stock filter. I did not add any in between oil changes. Looks good to me.

Probably because they worked out a cheap deal.
Considering VW/Audi seems to use Castrol, I'm not sure if Porsche (similar German brand) uses Mobil, or Mercedes. Plus with Mercedes it depends on which one. There is the cheap "European Car Formula" M1 everyone knows available at Wal-Mart, and then harder to find "Formula M" supposedly previously in use at Mercedes dealers, possibly to meet their spec MB 229.5 or whatever it's called.

It was Porsche people on Rennlist saying M1 is thin like water and burns off at the track (what Porsche's are made for), creates white smoke, etc.; that they like Motul better.

It is, it’s 5w40.. a lot of people use it in gas vehicles.. I actually used it in a Subaru Outback xt and a wrx and it helped a lot with blow by and oil consumption.. I’ve considered it in my taco. But I’m currently running their “gas truck formula” and oem filters..

I'm running this in my truck now, im curious to see how it performs. Watched a few viscosity reviews and what not about there oil and it actually performs really well.

Been using this with OEM Toyota filters for years on multiple vehicles. Gotta be close to 300k cumulative mileage and I’ve never had a single issue. Now you can get most oem filters at Walmart too. Warren distribution has excellent products.
