Hey everyone, i’ve had my tacoma for over 1 1/2 years now, and have discovered a hose with the hose clamp not properly secured. I was given the truck this way from the previous owner. I also have my check engine light on, so my question is- what does this hose connect to /what is its purpose and could this be the reason the light is on?

    Yea you did. Lol
That’s fine we all do it..
As far as your check engine light you need to get it scanned before you do start anything..

Are you talking about this hose?

    1C3B4D33-48AD-444C-95C5-B9AA14A7844E.jpg

Its a vent hose and looks properly secure to me. The outer hose surrounds the inner hose, mine looks like that. Shouldn’t cause a check engine light

yes i have to hit the nearest autozone soon before inspection in April. It’s come on and off in the past but has been on for the last 8 months atleast. A big checklist from toyota when frame was replaced in nov. to get done before inspection.

yeah it’ll take a little time. The biggest problems to get taken care of is the exhaust leak, which i believe needs complete replacing with 2 leaks. That and the check engine light within next three months and then toyota said my power steering harness or something power steering related needed replacing at a hefty cost of about $1200. That needs more looking into.

The list of parts they gave me made me choose the least expensive parts for them to put on, which were new sway bushings and intermediate steering shaft.

Exhaust Leaks are bad for check engine lights.
    Good luck

Yep as soon as i got my truck back from frame replacement i crawled under and found two holes in muffler, right near where the mounts were welded on. Then a coworker found another leak up front between flange i think, also a bracket rusted through, regardless it is there if the pictures don’t show it. I may have a better picture.

on the lighter side once the exhaust is replaced, the underside and the truck is 98% (give or take) rust free.

Very close to that point. I will miss the sound this one makes roaring up a hill though, its beyond annoying at points but my friends love it saying that it sounds like a dirtbike with windows down in summertime.

    Ok.

    FYI
If you had done those while the frame was being replaced a whole shit load of Labor cost would have been saved for you.

For instance the intermediate shaft could have been replaced for just about the cost of the part.
It needs an alignment anyway and it’s right there with the steering rack off.

The sway bar bushings the same way.

I meant that i had the steering shaft and bushings replaced by them when the frame was replaced. Those were the most affordable and least expensive parts to fix. The power steering issue is one i did not have fixed.
