How much value do mods add when selling?

I'm considering selling my Taco (2018 Cement TRDOR DCSB with premium/tech). Love it very much, but life situation is making me consider. Haven't fully decided to do so, but in thinking about value, I am not sure how much to attribute to mods, if anything. So how much above KBB value do go for mods such as:

• SCS F5 wheels with 285 KO2s ($1800 new)
• OME coils with Bilstein 5100s up front to give ~2.5" lift. (Rear has 5100s with a block)
• JBA UCAs
• ECGS bushing
• Blackout headlights with LED low beam and high beam from Xenon Depot.
• Baja Design amber cornering fog lights
• Front camera installed and rear anytime camera
• ECT always on
• black out badging (I wouldn't think this does anything, but I've seen dealers charge $100s for this)
• Multiple Meso mods (interior LEDs, turn signals, etc.)
• Pro grill
• several other smaller things like re-upholstered console and some cosmetic things.

All mods are on average 1 year old. I realize some stuff is a matter of finding the right buyer who values these things beyond a normal truck purchaser.

OE parts like a tonneau, side steps, etc.. maybe 10% back?
Other stuff sometimes has negative value. lol

Edit: For the mods you have - nothing. No offense. Better off selling them on here and returning the truck to mostly stock.

 

Better off selling all the parts, bringing it back to stock. They will give you nothing, but make a nice profit on the next guy they sell it to.

Zeeeeeeeero. Unless you private party sell it to some dipshit who will pay anything you ask for.

 

Never buy someone else's project.

That said, there are those out there who don't care to follow this rule, but you'll never get what you think the actual value is.

 

That money was gone the day you spent it.

 

There is value to CERTAIN mods as long as they are accompanied by documentation.

step bars are one,

a bed cover like a hard top (not a camper shell)

weather tech floor mats

you get the picture.

things that make the truck more user friendly to old folks, women, people of short stature...

lifts and the like only attract people that WANT that. The majority of potential buyers are gonna want it stock or slightly accessorized.

 

You're best bet is to go back to stock, sell the truck, then sell the parts.

 

Just because you liked the mod doesnt mean the next guy will. The good news is that if the mod is removable and desirable it will sell quickly in the market place section but expect 1/2 of what you paid.

 

IF you found a buyer that wanted what you had already done, 30-50% of what you spent would be a decent number.

While the market for such a thing does exist, it's just smaller. So expect a sale to move a bit slower than a stock truck.

And certainly don't expect a dime if you trade it. Regardless of what the salesman tells you about the great deal he's giving you.

 

Zero value specially to a dealer might low ball due to modes. I bought mine used at a few hundred below value with a few modes on it from a dealer and it was sitting for a wile. I hope you kept you OEM parts. At least if you sell the modes separately you might recover.

 

My rule was to stay away from ALL modded cars when looking at used vehicles.

now I might consider some of them since a lot of them are just mall crawlers.

 

Mods only devalue your truck, always best to sell it 100% stock.

The only thing i can think of that wont hurt value of your truck is canopy.

Eh, there's no harm in listing it for sale. It doesn't sound like you need to sell it, so just pick a number you want to get and see if anyone bites. If not, then either cut your losses or start returning it to stock and sell the aftermarket stuff on here.

 

I assume there's people out there who would spend money on a fully "built" truck but it would probably need to be exceptional. Most people would prefer to buy a stock truck and make their own modifications since everyone mods to their own taste / preference.

Luckily with what you've done it shouldn't be too hard to roll back to mostly stock (if you kept the parts) and sell your mods separately.
