Toss a piece of cardboard under your truck over night after a long drive and just see what’s on it in the AM.

A little bit of oil can look like a lot in a hurry, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over this.

I’m little surprised that they go to the trouble of separating the trans from the motor to determine wether it’s seepage or a leak and don’t just swap the seal
while they’re in there. Doubt it was actually pulled. I’m a diesel tech and have no experience with gas engines but in the trucks I work on it’s at most a 10 minute ordeal to actually change the seal once your in there.

I agree, they did not pull it. Had a look under there, was not cleaned either. I was told that they would pull it, and it didn’t make sense at the time to not just change it while it was separate but I figured maybe it work out in my favor. Such is life, shit happens.

It was also accurate for many Honda's. I have no idea if they really fixed it, but they told me to my face that it was 'normal' for my GF's Accord to go through a quart every 1000mi. Called him a liar, but then I looked and sure enough it was normal for them. This was on a 2010. This says it was from 2008 to 2013.

My wife's 2007 Civic Si did the same thing, she bought it brand new and maintained it. Kept it stock. Started eating oil like crazy. Take it to Honda and they say, it's bad but we cant do anything about it. We'll open the engine and look around for 2500.00, that was when I gave up on Honda.
It's sad because it looks like so many manufacturers are cutting corners and this is the result.

I have the same issue and share your frustration. Wife took the truck to the dealer yesterday (2/3/2020) for diagnostic and showed them the photos where the oil leak is coming from. Two hours later, received a call that the truck is ready and the conclusion is below. Soon as I got home, I checked again and surprise, surprise it is clearly leaking from what appears to be the rear main seal. Dealer scheduled me to come back in five days but I am not waiting that long and rescheduled my appointment for this Thursday.

How about a Harley "weep"...dealt with one for two years. It actually was normal for that model and really wasn't an oil leak but it looked like one. Had three GM trucks and one Toyota truck (pre-Taco) with actual rear main leaks. The Toyota had less that 50 miles on the odometer. I was really pissed about that one. Showed up at the dealer on Sunday wanting it fixed. It got fixed, but not on Sunday. We drove it for over 150,000 miles with no further leaks. Stuff happens.

It looks like if you can get them to admit the oil is there yours might get fixed, since its actually dripping. Mine is just damn stubborn enough to be noticeable but not fixable. Let us know what they say, I am curious if it will be fixed for you. Sorry you're going through this too.

Mine isnt weeping but there is dry dirt/ oil sludge specifically under where the rear main seal would leak (same as OP) . Im going to clean it off tonight and see how long it takes to accumulate. i only have 9k miles on the truck.

Mine definitely leaks on my '16. But not enough to cause concern. I'm at 61k now and just brake clean it off when I do the oil change. Its leaked for about 10k miles but I don't have time to deal with the dealership bullshit. I work as a dealer tech and they DO have say over what they do and don't do. They don't have to send pictures of EVERYTHING to toyota. Its dumb, but its life. I'll wind up doing it myself, honestly.

2018 TRD Sport 4x4. 23,400 miles on odo.

Went to dealer for last 24 month/25K miles service (“oily residue on oil pan” on my punch list). Diagnosed as rear main oil seal leak. Returning Tuesday and leaving all day for the remove / replace.

Anyone have any idea what the Toyota book time is for replacement of the RMS? I am 1500 miles over my 80K extended warranty and it started leaking. They want to split the cost with me, with my part being $750.00. I just had the truck in there 20 days ago for an oil change.

1.6 hours. That 1.6 hrs took them 3 days and they provided me a spankin' new 4Runner to drive while they kept the Taco. I can't see how they can do that in 1.6 hrs, though. Seems to be a bunch of stuff to R&R.

(The 4.00 hours is for the other stuff on my punch list they did.)

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
I blame the EPA. There was no other reason to get rid of the 4.0, which I believe will go down as one of their most reliable engines.
