If I do the oil change at third party, will the warranty be voided?

You can change it your self or any place you choose. NO manufacturer can tell you where to service your vehicle to maintain a warranty, unless they provide the service for free. See the Magnuson-Moss act concerning warranty issues. To many people have NO clue about warranties and how they work.

I usually look up reviews of dealers online (yelp and google). Look for places with a lot of reviews and just start reading through them... sort by most recent, and look through the past two or three months worth. If the vast majority are positive, then you are probably fine.

You still might have some minor issues pop up every now and then (stripped skid plate bolt, scuffs on interior door panels, etc.), but overall, it'll do the job. Always give your truck a quick once over when you go to pick it up (check interior and exterior for damage, check underneath) and let them know immediately if somethings wrong.

I'm kinda fortunate that my girlfriends brother runs a small repair garage. I bought a case of filters and buy the 5qt mobil1 containers when they are on rollback at WallyWorld. He does my oil changes along with tire rotation, grease the drive shaft(where applicable), and adjust the rear brakes as needed. He charges me $30 each time. I keep all the receipts in an envelope in the glove box.

If you take it to a 3rd party or do it yourself, how do you turn off that annoying alert telling you service is needed? Do you just take it to the dealer and have them reset it?

Personally I'd do the maintenance yourself. You can document it in the Toyota app, and if you buy oil and filters on Amazon that'll save your receipts for you.

You can do it yourself, the procedure is in the owners manual. Or search "reset maintenance light" here on TW. Basically pushing and holding the trip Odometer reset with the ignition on, but not started. I don't remember if it has to be trip "A" or trip"B".

It's a TOYOTA. Tacoma of all things. What is going to go wrong with it before the short warranty expires???????

Maybe your previous cars were not Toyota's. It's okay, breathe, you're safe now. You got a Taco.
