I drive through the Sarita checkpoint all the time. I wonder what the Border Patrol would do if they x-ray my truck and see that on the screen..

And y’all, please understand that I’m young, broke, and very uneducated about sound systems. So if you recommend any brand it would be dope if you could explain why. Much appreciated

No you read that wrong. I came from 4000 watts and some big woofers to 2 shallow mount 10’s and didn’t expect much. I was pretty surprised what the shallow mounts do. They will never be what I had but they fit behind the seats and sound great and get low for a sealed box

what will surprise you more is how they will bump on half the power your are currently supplying! Started off on a 600w RMS amp for both subs. Shocked at the results! Of course 1200 is much better but still!

You still need a box... but here is a cheap combo.... I can go cheaper! make sure you check out FB market and Craigslist for people selling their old stuff.

Boss is a cheap brand. They work for bass setups... just not the most reliable brand.

That makes a lot more sense lol. Shallow woofers can definitely sound great. I had 4 Morel 9" woofers behind the bench seat in my standard cab Ranger decades ago and they sounded great. I think they were 2 3/8" deep.

Boss equipment is designed poorly and fails often. Engine noise coming out of the speakers is common. But if you're going to use a cheap amp use it for the bass.

I haven't been in the industry for 7 or 8 years, all of the equipment that was made then isn't made now so I don't have a clue on current equipment specs, that's why I looked up and compared the Alpine and the Kicker woofers. Generally speaking I never used Alpine for anything other than a head unit when I had a choice in the matter. But the specs, reviews, and the materials of the Alpine are better than the Kicker's.

My 21 yr old son listens to dubstep. It has a lot of different sounds to it, including distortion.

I understand being on a tight budget but I really don't think you'll be happy with a Boss amp long term. But then again my son has an amp I've never heard of and his subs sound good. Lol.

You could always go with a smaller good quality amp now for your woofers and when you got the paper buy a bigger good quality amp for the woofers and use the one you previously had for the woofers for everything else. Kicker, MTX, Fosgate, are all great brands for amps. Try to get one with a (wired) remote bass control. Get the lowest impedance on the amp that it is rated for so it will create the most power that it can.

If you don't understand something just ask.

    Some math, audio system style.
To increase the volume of sound (decibels or db) you can gain 3 db by: doubling the surface area of the woofer (2 10" woofers are 3db louder than 1 10" woofer), or by doubling the power going to the speaker (100 watts instead of 50 watts) you'll also gain 3db, or if the woofer is in a sealed box if the box is properly ported you'll also gain 3db, or if the box is ported you'll gain 3db by making the box a band pass box. As you can see, there are a lot of different ways to achieve sound volume (db).

So if all things are equal a 15" woofer is 6.99 db louder than a 10" woofer because the 15" woofers surface area is 2.33 times bigger than the 10". Throw that 10" in a band pass box and now the 15" is only 0.99 db louder than the 10". Increase the power going to the 10" speaker by 33% and it'll be exactly as loud as a 15" woofer but it will play higher bass notes clearer and lower bass notes clearer than the 15". Fun stuff.

That’s cool man. I’m 22. I’m glad my peers still listen to that. As you said about the Alpine, the specs say it’s “better.” The reason I don’t want to get something less is because I’m afraid of blowing the subwoofer. So I would rather get a really good sub that can handle the 600W RMS. I don’t mind if the amp can’t let it go to it’s mad potential... but I don’t have the best knowledge so my question is, is it bad for the subwoofer to be powered by a cheap amp?

Yes, cheap amps put out a "dirty" signal with is distortion and distortion kills speakers the quickest. However don't misunderstand that it means certain and sudden death, a quality speaker can last a long time with a cheap amp if listened to intelligently. Distortion kills speakers faster than being underpowered or overpowered. My son's JL W0 has lasted a year and a half with his amp. His amp is a swap meet special. He likes it loud. Lol.

I was in the same boat with my jetta years and years ago. I was debating between a sundown something (don't remember, didn't buy it obviously) and went with a 12" SSA DCON, doesn't look like they make the dcon line anymore, I would assume the "demon" replaced it, just guessing by wattage. It was enough to make me physically un-comfortable, when I transplanted it to my golf, it took my rearview mirror off. Too much, for too small of a car. It was running in a sealed box too. I have some audiopipe amp attached to it, back when they made ok decent hardware and not walmart grade shit. This was all like... 12+ years ago... I still have that setup, it's just not been connected to anything for a few years. I just bought one of those kicker hideaways to stick in my truck, I'm not interested in losing cab space, or mega bass for that matter anymore either.
