I've had this truck since new and it's been a joy to own. Now for the first time at 136K I'm getting a scraping type sound when I put it in reverse. The sound speeds up and slows down with the movement of the truck so I'm about 95% certain it's coming from the drive shaft. I've got no zerks on the U-joints or the carrier bearing. Do I have any options to get grease in without replacing the u-joints and carrier bearing? The U-joints seem to be solid so it could be just coming from the carrier bearing. Thanks for your help.

IF the universal joints are making noise they need to be replaced, not greased.

136K with no grease, replace them all with universal joints with grease fittings. Then grease every oil change or at a minimum every other oil change.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I need to start gathering up parts. Oceanslide, I don't know the difference between the two spicer u-joints you listed. I'm going to be doing some research on parts before I pull any triggers.

Make sure you mark the driveline,so you put it back together and back on the truck in exactly the same way it was orientated when you removed it.
