Damn. Well with that background it helps us to know how to explain answers to your questions and stuff. Happy to hear you're a handy type. Being handy AND willing to DIY allows first gen taco ownership to not nickel and dime ya to death. My feelings don't matter at all but I feel much better you getting into a first gen.
You understand it'll take maintenance to keep it on road as they're 20 years old. That's important to know and accept :D

Well, I’m no mechanic but I’m handier than most chicks. I’ve already watched a million YouTube videos about throttle body issues, locker install etc.

I’m glad to have you guys out there. I’m sure I’ll be on here quite a bit.

If this was your new 04 w/64k what would you do to get her squared away in the first few weeks?

I might be using this thread wrong. I guess I should start a build thread for myself and my yet unnamed Yota.

I assume it’s 3.4 I would replace the spark plugs ( make sure to get dual electrode ngk or denso) clean the maf and replace all the fluids especially brake and trans. I would replace the fuel filter and inspect the timing belt and inspect the weep hole on the water pump. If there’s any white powdery buildup id swap the pump and belt at the same time

Yeah. I had a shop in NC change the belts (not timing) and change fluids, oil, tranny, brake.

once truck gets here I going to do plugs and wires myself cause it’s easy as well as replace all cooling system hoses.

I’m going to do timing belt etc at a shop and get engine cleaned.

I’ll prob drop some coin upfront too and put new leafs on, shocks, and get new tires.

I’m def throwing some money upfront at it, but I figure it’s a good investment and I want to start as fresh as possible.
Tbh, this is as close to a “new truck” as I’ve ever owned. NO TRUCK PAYMENTS!

it’s going to be a long couple weeks waiting for it to arrive. I hope shipping company takes good care of her.
