Cigarette lighter USB port to headunit?

I'll be installing a Sony XAV-AX100 in a couple of days. I just found out you need plug in your phone USB in order for the Apple Car Play to work.

Can you install a USB port in the cigarette lighter to work with the headunit? I'd rather set this up than have something coming out of the glovebox.

If there are any existing threads or videos showing how to do it that'd be awesome.

If you had a 2009 or newer, you would have switch blank holes below the climate panel that you could put stuff in. You can put the newer lower dash panel in. It's a fair amount of work to put it in though.

 

So there's no way to replace one of the cigarette lighter plugs with one?

Bump did it fit ? Kinda hating that I didn't wait to get the 09 model but I bought brand new lol. Almost 12 yrs in now. Upgrading audio again -1st aftermarket in 2013.

 

Yes, mine fit perfectly but I forget which one I bought now. It looks factory.

 

Thanks man. Do u have any pics of your setup ? I’m planning to have my things installed professionally and have bought multiple diff ones. One with dual usb outlets and one with a usb and an hdmi to possibly mirror my iPhone to a new aftermarket unit via a lightning to hdmi adapter with the isimple media cable to av inputs and a kenwood cable.

 

I've got an 06. I bought the lower trim piece for a later year. It had 3 openings for switches. Used 2 for heated seat controllers and the third for a combo usb/ aux inputs. Metra brand. It fit perfectly in the last opening.
I don't have a pic atm but can take one later if needed.
