My Dakar’s with extra leaf (old style) have held up great. My understanding is they are equivalent to the new style HD Dakar’s. Wondering what they changed with the new style that makes everyone complain about them so much?

 

I forgot to post this here, I saw this on my way home from work at 58th and Wadsworth. Replace them LBJ's !

 

They are not bad. I can carry them with ease.

 

Yeah, that's what I've been hearing that the old style hold up slightly better. I looked at the OME EL47XL can add 15mm to height, which is what I'll do.

Yeah this is kinda sad. My impression of Alcan is that their reputation is largely built around the many years of experience of the owner, plus a high quality product and excellent service. I think it's going to be a challenge to find a buyer who has that level of knowledge and delivers the same quality product and service as Bill did.

 

Group buy for Alcan? I as well planned to get them eventually.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trail Gear tried to buy them. Since they bought out Wheelers and Allpro too

 

Springs are built to order, so you'll be buying materials, not a saleable finished product.

 

Leafs are for trees

 

So now that your trailing arms are done, when do you start on your rear coil over conversion?

Better get those leaf springs now..

Waiting on Fox. (downsouth motorsports) 16" coilover and 18" bypasses. My setup should be 24" travel in the rear. At least on paper. I'm going to do some more minor adjustments to keep from cutting up the back of my cab. We'll see. I'm working on the rear axle mounts now.

 

leaf springs can be easily re-arched, and donor leaves are widely available at most junk yards to create the pack you need.

 

Doesn't help you when your main leaf breaks.

 

can't help you there, get a new main leaf and slow your mob.

Edit: knowing you, maybe carry an extra main leaf...
