I recently picked up a used 2017 double cab TRD sport with 45K miles. I have been driving it for about a month now with no issues.

Today I went to leave work started the truck and engaged the 4WD and when I put it in drive the dash lights started to flash on and off in rythm - not flickering. I could hear a distinct clicking noise each time they came on and off. As soon as I turned the headlights on it stopped and did not reoccur.

Was this a warning to turn the headlights on ?

Also it was raining and snowing at the time and the truck had been running before that after using the remote starter (aftermarket).

Probably just the normal noise and light associated with switching to 4H, exacerbated by being in PARK and not moving.
It stopping, when you turned on the headlights is probably just a coincidence.

Mine happened when not in 4wd and never heard any clicking noises. Am supposed to get it back from the dealer tmrw (they never verified if they were able to fix or replicate the issue) but will report back

4wd high. No idiot lights. Just background gauge lighting.

Aftermarket remote starter may be the culprit

I had something similar happen to me. Today at a stop light I noticed the temperature display, the one that actually shows degrees and fan speed starting flickering or dimming. It reminded me of back in the day when your big ass subwoofer would hit hard and the headlights started to dim.

Nothing else was effected and my headlights were steady. I turned the radio off and the display continued to flicker. The only thing I changed in the interior is a Hypertech spedo device and a switch for my led light bar.

I turned the truck off and restarted it, I haven't seen it return yet.
