Geeze, I would think they would have stopped using the bad programming by now!

Supposedly they did during the '10 model year. If you have an issue take it to the dealer.

Does the transmission TSB need to be done if you are going to have the accelerator recall done? Have not had the recall done yet and was just wondering if I need to mention the trans TSB.

Had my truck in this week for a bunch of recall stuff and they reflashed with all the updates which included the trans tsb and my updated supercharger calibration and the pedal recall. Truck feels like a new truck again with it shifting right now .

I didn't know there were a bunch of recalls. Trimming the gas pedal and load carrying weight reduction stickers I knew about. I think there might have been an issue with the TPMS but I didn't think the Tacoma was affected.

Bringing this thread back because I also have a 2011 and need the TSB for shifting for this model year. I printed the one in the second post but I believe it does not apply to the 2011's. Please help!

Edit: the reason I ask about the 2011's though post 663 above states it was fixed, is because I have a transmission vibration in first gear.
Dealer says it's normal, but I really need this resolved ASAP as I'm moving out of the country in 2 weeks.

I see this TSB is up to 80K miles, my 09 is at 79500.

personally i'm not noticed any shift issues, so i'm guessing I should just forget it

Hi guys, I have a tacoma 2008 v6 4x4 crew cab preruner with 109K miles and everytime that I stop and inmediately hit the gas pedal to keep going, the transmission engage really hard that I hear the noise. Other than that no problems. I changed the fluid and filter but keeps the same. I have learned that if I stop and allow 4 seconds it will go ok. Any fix for this? Thanks.

I know this is an old post but I want to ask if the TSB also helps with the problem mentioned above? I have a 09 with the same behavior. Everything is fine when I coast slowly down to a stop, but when I have to get to a fast stop I have to wait a few secs to allow the transmission sort its shifting to first gear.
When the TSB doesn't have anything to do with this issue, are there other things I can try?....thx

Has anyone had this TSB incorporated after the drive train warranty expiration? I'm at 90k and stumbled on this thread making me realize this is an issue. I always just thought it shifted harder because of the tow package. I'd probably even be willing to pay Toyota to reflash the ECM to make it shift better.

I had mine done a year or two after I bought it. Seemed better for a few weeks and then right back to what it was before the re-flash. Waste of time.

Not sure if you experience the same issue I mentioned back in 2018 which I had on my truck, but in case you do i found the reason for my problem.
My transmission was under filled by 2 quarts. After I did a complete flush of the transmission (good description on how to do it can be found here at TW) I figured that I had to add 2 quarts. The first test drive after the flush showed that the truck was completely changed in how it drives. The shifts are quicker and it feels just more sporty in general, also the shift hesitation when shifting into the first gear when coming to a quick stop disappeared.

This hard shift has been with the truck since I bought it brand new in 2009. I just did a tranny fluid change at 85k and its still there. I always just assumed it was keeping the truck in the lower gear range for the tow package, but who knows.

I read here on TW that it happened in the past that some transmissions were under filled by Toyota fresh out of the production. Maybe the shop where you performed the flush just refilled the same amount they took out!!??

By the way ...mine is a 2009 too

The shop was my garage, and I used an obdII scanner to make sure I was at the right temp before pulling the overflow plug. Honestly, i have no idea how much came out. lol
