Would it be okay to use an amber #194 wedge glass bulb like the one pictured below for the dash lights (4 bulbs for gauge cluster)? Will they produce to much heat??
I know the original 194 glass bulbs have an amber condom on top, but is that to reduce heat?

    It's to create a color.

Manuf. all clear bulbs (cheaper) then modify them to color of choice.

Man I have not had good luck with the #194 led bulbs in my '03. I've used the Led Bulbs from Superbrightleds.com (see below links). They start off great, but after about a year, they start to go off / on randomly.
From the advice of a TW Member, I switched to the led below in the first link.
If these don't make it, I'm switching back to the oem or equivalent glass wedge bulb.

Current #194 led bulbs that were put in 02/05/20

Replaced 2X. Again, replaced these with the ones above yesterday.

Amber bulbs are typically for turn signals that utilize clear lenses.
Have noting to do with heat reduction, just to give off amber colored light.

True, but not sure it applies to his question?

I have not used these. I have had no issues with other LED bulbs in the past though. LED's are supposed to use less energy less heat and last longer in theory.

It applies directly to OP's question as amber bulbs do not create more heat than clear and using amber bulbs in the dash to replace where clear is specified is going to create a strange look, as it would replacing clear dome light bulbs with amber.
