Just bought the truck used with 10000 miles on it. Had made it to 15000 and wanted to get an oil change done since I didn't know how the previous owner kept up on it. Took it to a Valvoline quick lube place ( first mistake ) they had it done quick went on to work then home which is about a 50 mile trip to get there and back home. Soon as I pulled into my neighborhood the engine oil low light came on. Got it to my house and turns out they broke the gasket on the oil filter and it leaked at work and all the way home. So does anyone know at what point far as how many quarts are left in the engine when the light comes on ? Is it still fairly safe at that point or should I get my oil tested for metal shavings and premature ware? Thanks

Welcome aboard. Drain the oil and check the volume remaining in engine. Have the oil tested and look for silvery shimmer in drain pan. I wouldn't trust the lube joints with a lawn mower.

Thanks! Love the truck! But this happened last week. I started with the filter because of where it was leaking from but they torqued down on it so much that I couldn't get it off, so ended up pouring oil in it to make it to the local dealership and they managed to get it off and went ahead and did a oil change. And yea never taking anything back to them for sure!

Your motor is fine , Toyota has built in precautions just for the quick lube joints .

There is no oil level sensor.

Only a oil pressure sensor, which will trip once about 4 liters is gone.

I didn't think there was a oil level sensor either but this is what popped up. It wasn't the pressure sensor just this. upload_2019-1-12_20-8-6.jpg
