As I stated before I've never had any exposed/uncooked flour. I also don't have a magic answer. Use less, try different breading methods, spritz a little oil, turn the food a few times is all I got. I do think your earlier conclusion that it happens frequently and comes as a condition with an AF is not correct.

I get what your saying but when you say watch my food cook... I cant watch my food cook unless I keep pulling the basket out of the fryer to check it because there is no window...

Mine has a window but kind of useless.

Just need to more or less time your peeks. Say at 8 minutes, turn the heat up a hair, take a quick peek, close door, turn heat back to what it was in 10-20 seconds.....take action - stop cooking (done), flip, wait 3 minutes, turn heat up. etc.........

I think it's an air fryer/lack of oils things. The oils help the flour toast and if they aren't there the process doesn't take place. I may try using a spritzer bottle with a good oil the the next time and see if that helps. I mean don't get me wrong doesn't stop me from using it just certain types of things I avoid in it. Could also be the AF I have. I want a larger one so I can cook more at once.

Anybody ever pull their pot out and have the bottom bounce off the kitchen floor leaving you holding the basket? Happens to me all the time. The latch that holds the basket to the pot isn't very reliable. But at least the food is in the basket and not in the pot. o_O

Update. AF is clean. Fired it up with 1 tray with an oven thermometer sitting on it. Ran at 400 for 20min. Just a little odor wasn't strong at all. I reckon it's just the odor of the food cooking that bothers me. So I'll just turn on the exhaust fan while cooking. 93.7% of the food cooked in it turns out excellent. ;)

The oven thermometer read 325f. o_O Doesn't matter, it cooks how it cooks, and I love how it cooks.

So, I just need to plug my nose when it's doing it's thing.

My wife and I had that discussion and agreed that beef still needs real fire.

We have no desire to try to air fry steaks when we know that 6 minutes a side at 400 to 450 on the grill is perfect.

Couple people here have done it and said it came out well. I will stick with reverse sear. :)

that’s what I was thinking. I did steaks on cast iron last night though because all my grills and even the air fryer were at our new place already....

what about burgers?? Same thing just grill?

In earlier posts I have posted about both steaks and burgers.. the steak wasn't the best I had ever had.. but it wasn't the worst either... The burgers were just as good as any... There wasn't anything special.. just plain old 80/20

Burgers you might be able to get away with in a pinch. I've not tried it myself, I usually will just pan fry if I can't get to the grill. I do my burgers the same way I do my steak now though. I put them on the smoker then sear them after they have picked up the flavor. :)

Is it the best way to cook red meat? Probably not.. but it does it in a flash and saves me from going out in negative degree wind chills!

I've cooked pork and chicken and chicken wings etc... Made hard boiled eggs ... I've tried everything I can think of to try. Check out all the previous posts in this thread

I do my red meat on the pellet smoker and finish on the seer box.

I have been reading back thru on my free time... with me pretty much having to cook every dinner now I’m gonna be looking for new ideas. We are trying to move away from the processed stuff...
