Is this really rust on my 7 day old 2020 Tacoma?

Greetings! I'm a complete noob to both TacomaWorld and to the Tacoma. I bought my brand new (first ever new vehicle for me) Tacoma SR SX I4 2wd exactly 7 days ago. Today while I was crawling under the truck to install my running boards, I noticed what looked like rust around what I believe is the lower portion of the exhaust manifold (I could saying the wrong part). Is this normal or do I need to bring this to the dealerships attention? I might just be overly cautious but I was not expecting to see ANY rust on a brand new truck!

Looks great to me, but I’m in the northeast and our local Government tells us that’s normal:bananadance:

I believe those are headers, and yes bare metal rusts fast.

That seems off for a brand new truck but I guess those rusty areas dont have any paint on them from the factory, it would just burn off anyways. If you live up north or wherever they salt the roads alot it would be worth it to have some kind of rust protection put on the bottom like fluid film or something similar. I live in Georgia so I dont know very much about the rust proofing stuff or which one is better

Dunno, good observation but I've always noticed that the exhaust system tends to rust fast as the heat would probably burn off paint.(?)

Those look like exhaust headers. Dealer will tell you that's normal I bet.

    It's all normal.

Should have upgraded to the D-4S V6:)

“There are a few other features of the Atkinson-cycle engine that stand out. Even though it's not a conventional truck engine, it offers durability that truck owners appreciate. The exhaust manifolds and pipes on the 3.5-liter are stainless steel, and it uses a timing chain instead of a belt for less stretch. Additionally, the piston oil jets have a check valve to keep oil pressure from dropping when the oil level is low. Head gaskets are steel-reinforced as well.”

I mean hey that's all fine and dandy, but just so you and anyone else is aware who is not aware, stainless steel eventually rusts also.

It all depends on the chromium and nickel content. For example an 18/10 SS would be 18% chromium and 10% nickel.

A lemon peel does works wonders if your trying to regain the luster on a SS part.
