Had an ap1 for 10 years, sold it to get the truck. Every time someone talks about the high revs in the Tacoma I get confused. As the S2000 gets older I am amazed at the miles people are racking up on such a high-strung engine that gets flogged regularly. I am sure the Tacoma is operating well within it's limits.

once warmed up properly. Redline a day keeps the carbon away!

What is "warmed up properly" in terms of driving distance/temp needle on gauge?

I just uncomfortably towed my boat an hour the other day and it was on the rev limiter for most of that hour lol

The temp needle on the gauge isn't really telling you much in my opinion. Sure, I guess if it's up to 1/3 to 1/2 you can assume it's "warm" but I can tell you that needle for me climbs to about 40% of left and stays there no matter what. In the morning (looking at my OBD2 data) the needle will looked completely warmed up while the engine oil temp is still reading like 120 whereas it will heat up to 180-200 with highway driving. this variance results in the needle staying in the exact same spot all the time.

I'd say driving for 5 mins or so is sufficient to warm up the trucks in mild / warm weather and maybe a bit longer in the cold ? YMMV

It likely takes 20 minutes to warm up completely. Drive off moisture and parts to reach optimum dimensions. That is drive gently for 15-20 minutes before you have to hammer it. GTS Bruce

my drive to work is a good 20 minutes on a 2 lane hwy going 65 with a good sized hill half way and 2 places to shift out of 6th...or on a back road that meanders with hills and curves it takes 30 min that has little to no traffic and plenty of places to stretch the trucks legs and leads to the exact same road a half mile down....the back road takes 30 min if you go 50.. i get to work in 22 min or less everyday...take a guess which road i take?...OP my opinion is after about 5-10 minutes going constant speed and not accelerating like superman you should be at full operating temp to have some fun without worry

Here is my most common route. By the time I hit the freeway (X) in 5-7 min. all should be hot and ready.

When you’re temp needle reaches the middle, your engine is basically at operating temp. You can wait another mile or two to let your oil warm up to about 180°-190°F and all fluids are warm. I see around 230°F engine oil temps on the freeway at 65mph.
