Had an interesting conversation today with my insurance agent. He said if you ever hit a deer, don't say "I hit a deer" when talking to your insurance. Tell them "the deer ran into me". Same if you strike an object on the road. Don't say you hit it, say it fell off a vehicle. He said some insurance companies will put the repairs under collision coverage if you say you hit it whereas if the deer runs into you, it will be covered under your comprehensive coverage which won't impact your rates. Never heard of that distinction before, and it seems it could be open to a lot of interpretation. When I hit a deer a few years ago - yes I hit it, the damn thing was standing still in my lane but I couldn't see it at all due to oncoming traffic at night.

Not sure if it’s this thread or not but someone posted about insurance totaling repairable vehicles. If the salvage bid is high enough they can end up paying out less money by totaling a vehicle than repairing it

I get the deer part, if the deer runs in to you, and this is usually what happens. But, the fell off a truck part sounds to me, like he's suggesting you lie. Insurance fraud isn't worth it ,, not to me anyway. Who knows, I could have interpreted wrong, sorry, carry on :D

Yeah I wasn't sure what to make of that comment. If you hit something laying on the road, it would have fallen off a vehicle at some point whether that be right in front of you or a while ago. Either way it can be hard to avoid objects laying on a freeway.

    Final Estimate is in....
    $15,213.89.

They did confirm the damage on that corner goes beyond the exterior pillar and has damaged the interior safety pillar. They also found that whatever the running board is bolted to on these trucks was bent pretty good, and it is a structural strength area as well. They are sending insurance the update sheet with recommendation of "total loss"due to the damage in the corner.

Now that it’s totaled which way are you going? Another taco? Inquiring minds want to know.

    Definitely in the running.
I have 3 or 4 Tacos, a few 4runners....dropped the Tundra. Great motor...but want something a bit more efficient.

Oh yeah...rental is a 2020 F150 with the 3.5L twin turbo ecoboost....impressive motor with same gas mileage as the taco. Looking at those too.:anonymous:

If I were going to get a full size truck it would be the F150 with the 3.5, they improved that engine a couple of years ago so it should be a good choice. How do you like the 10 speed transmission behind that engine?

The 10 speed is smooth as butter. Impressed with it for sure. Of course the kids are screaming get it so we have room! Lol
They liked the taco when they ride in the front seat...but hate the backseats.

It was between a Tacoma and an F150 for me. My dad has a 2016 F150 with the 5.0 and I love that thing. If I was going to get an F150 it was going to have a 5.0 because that motor is bulletproof. The 3.5 while a stout motor always worried me because they just have so much going on with them which means more parts to wear out and fail. I found what I wanted in an F150 but the wife said it was too much for one and she would rather me spend the same amount on a Tacoma since my 96 lasted 301k. Ended up spending just as much on a Tacoma as the F150 I wanted was. I think sticking with the Tacoma was the right choice for me personally but if I go fullsize later down the road it will be a Ford.
