My Tacoma is pretty factory with the factory suspension and I don't want to add all that extra weight to my front end if it's not really necessary. I don't go off road that often. When I go camping, having a winch to get myself out of a jam would be nice. My truck is 4x2 so getting stuck is always a possibility. I'm just looking to upgrade the cheap-o bull bar I have with something functional.

I think removing the bull bar would already be considered an upgrade as it does more harm than good

I was glad I had it when I bumped into the wall in the parking deck last week... But then again, I might have not bumped it if I didn't have the bull bar... :anonymous:

Lol! Well if it was a slight tap or graze then I doubt any harm was done on the mounting points

I try to source local when I can. That way if something goes wrong you can easily get a replacement or warranty it faster. Shipping back drums isn't cheap and getting a return or warranty on it takes much longer than a local store. I've had great luck with Napa ultra premium line of brake parts. I've also had great luck with Duralast Gold products as well. Usually I buy once and the next sets are free for the life of my vehicle.

I am not a fan of how the bull bars look. Same thing with side steps.

Just doesn't do it for me, but its your art project. And that's what makes freedom great!

So I did something I've been wanting to do for a while now. I covered my seats with Clazzio a few years ago and never liked the fact that the hard rear seat backs were covered. So I removed the hard seat back and moved it outside the seat cover. Required a couple slits in the clazzios but then I was able to just attach it over the seat cover. Also did not like that my tools and storage items behind the seats were exposed when the seats were down. Items would fall out of the storage area when braking. So I made some secondary hatches to keep closed when the seats were folded down. Still need to cover them with black bunk board carpet. Tried just using stick on velcro to keep them closed. Velcro was stronger than the sticky side so that didn't work. Switched to magnets.

SimplehHatches made from 1/4" MDF board:

Two bolts under plastic caps to remove seat back:

Cover reinstalled after removing hard back. Slits cut to attach backing.

This is what the back side of the seat back looks like and why I needed to cut the slits in the cover:

Working on it in my living room:

Reinstalling (just poked a hole in the seat cover where the bolt needed to go through):

Driver side seat back done vs before pic of the passenger side:

    Storage hatch door open:

Bunk carpet installed on hatch doors:

Magnets from home depot did not work because the magnetic disc had to be glued to the hatch and the hot melt glue did not hold. Magnets stronger than glue. So I have ordered magnetic discs with a hole in the middle so they can be screwed to the hatch door. Then I should be done.

How did the ride change for you compared to your former setup?

Well I've only driven it home on a flat road since I still have to replace a UCA with a bad ball joint, but even on that short trip there was a huge difference in ride comfort and that's with 700lb springs. Can't wait to test them out on a trail.

The hatches are great. I've been trying to figure out how to solve the problem of keeping things in place and covered up.
