Hello. I just purchased a 2001 Tacoma double 4x4. Just going thought some routine maintenance items. The truck has 202,000 on it with the timing belt and water replaced at 188k. Looking to do the simple stuff. Already changed the oil and have the fuel filter to replace tomorrow. Looking at plugs and wires. I've been trying to read up on what to get but some discerning opinions exist. Found NGK plugs and Denso. Which are preferred? What about wires?

i have always used iridium plugs. ngk or denso is fine. people obsess about the double electrode sparks plugs but the iridiums work great. i replaced wires once in 300k and just used Bosch or something because i was broke. always buy Toyota if you can.
good luck and I'm sure you'll be happy with your tacoma.

Lower ball joints, go with OEM or at the very least, 555

Transmission fluid drain and fill; maybe drop the pan and do the filter as well. When reinstalling the pan, use Toyota FIPG

Coolant, flush all the old stuff out and replace with new

If posting from your phone, just hit UPLOAD FILE, then choose the file you wish to upload by scrolling through your gallery.

Same deal with a pc, its just you can easily upload a file as a picture you've taken at that moment with a phone.

    Welcome to your new addiction.

You received some good advice here so far and I would just like to add check out your frame and oil the crap out of it with fluid film.you can also have it sprayed professionally with a product called Krown .also treat your whole undercarriage the same way. These two products with creep and move around in all the hidden places.

You are either fighting existing rust or preventing rust… So important!

Frame was replaced Oct 2015. Looks perfect. Have already looked into rust preventive. Think I'm going to try cosmoline instead of fluid film?

I personally used Denso but only because I got them cheaper on Amazon. I would happily use NGK as well. Make sure you use dual Electrode plugs. I used NGK wires.

You should check your trans fluid, radiator, and possibly change diff fluids.
Check your coolant, if it is green you should really flush it and switch to Toyota red.
The reason I say this is I was talking to a Mercedes diesel mechanic a couple weeks ago and he was telling me that Toyota red is pretty much the cleanest coolant you can put in a vehicle. He said out of all of the engines and heater cores he’s pulled apart, that anything with Toyota red was almost new on the inside compared to green “universal” coolant. Glad to hear that Toyota is supposedly the best haha.

I had to replace my radiator 3 months ago and it had green and I decided to do a full flush with the Toyota Long Life red Non-diluted.
I flushed it with about 10 gallons of distilled water until it ran clear and then flushed with about a gallon of Toyota red and distilled water and then filled it with Toyota red Long life Non-Diluted and Distilled water 50/50 mixture.

You're well on your way and lucky to have a new frame!

I use fluid film on my frame. I had a couple rust spots on my frame but they haven’t spread after cleaning them and spraying on fluid film. Stuff works, and I use it on tools and other little things as a lubricator and it is way better than anything else I’ve used. And it’s fairly cheap. Like $50 a gallon, a gallon is probably 4 frames worth.

Dont use 555. Only use OEM, for the real reason that 555 are actually manufactured cheaper than OEM.
Look up Dirtypool’s write up of Lower Ball joints showing one cut in half and see the difference. That’s one thing not to skimp on in my opinion

Very nice looking truck, I just picked one up too.
Mine needs a lift and some new tires.

    Are those 285’s?

Controversial opinion, but I've never had a vehicle run better than they do on cheap NGKs.
