    Hello,

Hope this is the right thread. I'm considering purchasing a 2015 Tacoma TRD Trail Teams Sport with ~83K miles on it and I'd appreciate any advice.

The truck is being sold at a used car dealer near me. They seem like good guys. Its a crew cab, long bed V6 4wd. Essentially it is checking all of my boxes down to the color. I've been burned by pulling the trigger before completing my due diligence before so I just want to make sure I'm not walking into a problem before going through with it. They've completed their own inspection on it and it has a 91 autocheck score. Didn't know if I should get an independent inspection done. They also have some good warranty options that cover everything, but the frame.

It's been on the lot for a couple/few of months, which I was surprised by since I've see similar trucks go quick. Makes me paranoid I'm missing something.

I've test driven it, but other than a few minor things I haven't noticed anything wrong with it. Seems super clean. I got under the truck and there was some minor rust but nothing major that I could see. Couldn't find any leaks. Drove it slow from 10 mph to 25 mph and no bad vibrations. Drove it in a tight circle at low speed to listen to the differential. Suspension seems fine, but I'll probably upgrade it eventually. Tested the 4 wheel drive and went fine. The only issues that I've found include the passenger seat warmer not working and I'm not a fan of the TRD exhaust that comes with it, but I do like the tacoma roof rack.

I'm coming from a vw gti. Cool car but doesn't suit my lifestyle. I'm outside a lot climbing, skiing, backpacking, etc. Not planning on doing any crazy off-roading, but definitely need something more off-road capable. The gti also had a catastrophic engine failure at 80K so I'm looking for something super reliable.

    Thanks in advance.

    welcome to TW! few comments/questions

    1) what is a trd "trail team" sport?
    2) they probably aren't good guys
    3) yes you should have an independent inspection.
    4) i would be especially worried if its been on the lot that long
    5) have you driven it at highway speed?
    6) pictures?
    7) price?
    8) history?

Is there an online ad you can link to? What's the asking price? Used car lots typically get the stuff dealers don't want, so if it was me, I'd make sure to have it inspected by a trusted mechanic.

I’ve only seen the Trail Team Edition on the FJ Cruiser.
Not saying they didn’t make a Tacoma, but I’ve never seen one?

Canadian-market package. Speedometer and odometer should be in kms? (So is that 83000 kms or miles?)

Since we are in 2020, warranty coverage is no longer a consideration. Make sure it has a clean title. As with any used vehicle, pay out of pocket to have it inspected by an independent mechanic and a body shop (for collision damage).

I've driven it on the highway without any issue. Only thing I don't like is the TRD exhaust during acceleration. Just seems unnecessarily loud.

They're asking $25 or $26k. Online line its at 25 and over the phone they said 26.

From what I can tell only one owner in MI, I'm in UT. I can't find any damage or major repairs.

I appreciate all the replies. Confirming that I should get an independent inspection. They have warranties offered by gold standard starting at the time I purchase the vehicle. 5 yr 100k covers about everything major and some maintenance.

    Any other advice?

    Red flag for me
It came from Canada. Why? (I live in Canada)
This is often a sign of a unwanted, damaged, repo or auction auto.
Many people buying/selling Canadian autos accross border because your dollar is far better than our's.
Do your checking through Canada because I don't believe a USA search will show it's true history.

I'm not fond of independent used car dealers.
Independent used car dealers warranty always has lots of fine print so read carefully.

Many other Tacoma concerns will be answered on TW through first hand experience. So search away.

You won't go wrong with a Tacoma. Just make sure the Tacoma didn't go wrong with it's previous owner.
