My rear end doesn't hum at all

ive seen alot of people talk about swapping in LS motors in other cars etc. and 95% of them didnt have the mechanical ability to change their timing belt (in a specific vehicle) when it needed to be done.

Hard to take seriously.

 

I'd imagine when this is completed there will be a twin turbo kit that blows it away.

 

I've seen some 1st gens and early 90s and late 80s toyota pickups with larger engine swaps with tons.

Sexy as hell but ya know kinda niche market with the 1 tons and the radiator in the back with no bed and full roll cage...

I am gonna observe this thread out of curiosity. Years ago, I did put a 5.0L V8 into my 1991 Ford Explorer. For what it's worth, I found the 5.0L too much for the truck and it lost its appeal to me. I should have stayed with the 4.0L V6.

 

The 4.0 was gutless but at 265k miles it was still running

 

Spending a fortune to pull out what is likely a perfectly running motor, Frankenstein swap a different manufacturers motor in, it will never run right, you’ll have stuff breaking constantly, and the value of the truck is destroyed. Sounds like a plan.

 

Why will it not run right? There are tons of LS/SBC swaps in just about everything that run fine. I don't see this really happening, or being worth the cost for a street truck, but it is 100% doable.

There was 1 person who swapped in a diesel to his third gen. Not the same, but he may have some insight on the shop he used, and parts etc. Fast Lane on YouTube had his truck on an episode

 

Could work with a mod or two.

 

I am not an LS guy, but I would do a LS swap way before a Hemi. The aftermarket is much better and you are going to need good aftermarket options.

 

Yup. I pulled a straight 6 out of my 65 and dropped in a 350. Holy crap, then I had to upgrade the brakes, then I had to upgrade the rear end, then it needed shocks.

And because a 350 was never available in a 65, I had to Frankenstein it together with parts from new vehicles. Going to buy parts is a total pain in the but because 20 years later I can't remember what parts came from what and only the oldest guy working the counter can track down what I need.

It's like something out of the Johnny Cash song.

There's an entire company that does it. Basically orders the diesel that they put in the Hilux I believe and swaps it in to a 3rd Gen Tacoma. Looks and drives like factory when done, but costs like $15-20k or something crazy.

Edit: Found it. And it is even more expensive than I remembered... closer to $30k.
