Hello all, 5th Toyota, but 1st time member here.

I installed Rock Blokz today on my 2020 Tacoma and notice that some of the grommets the screws go into are not as tight as factory once new screws placed. Has anyone replaced the grommets while installing after market flaps? It seems this would be painful due to the factory fender flares. On the rear flaps I could check and none appear split, so I am guessing that plastic in less then ideal.

    Thanks!

The plastic must be crap, because i didn't get the good in tight feeling installing factory mudflaps either. It felt like the screws are the wrong size

I put mine on 3 years ago so I don't remember exactly how they installed. But if screws go into plastic they will not be as tight the second go. The first install essentially cuts the threads and the plastic pinches the fastener. Subsequent installs into the same hole will not be as tight because the hole has already deformed, it is also very easy to completely strip it out.

Thats what I thought. The new plastic grommets are easy enough to get. Without looking, not sure the used ones can be popped out and new ones seated without fender flare removal.

I ended up removing them, did not really care for the gap in front or rear. Most all the factory screws were ok going back in, prob because they are shorter perhaps. There is one that spins, thinking about putting some Permatex screw glue on it for it does not back out. I did not care for the flaps looks anyway. Going to get some rock sliders and skip the flaps for now.

I tightened mine pretty snug without issue. Drove around for a bit and then had to re-tighten, a week later. No problems after that.
I would apply loctite to that vertical rubber spacer that just sits in that hole (not sure what you call it). Instructions say to install as is, but mine came loose after a week and my friend lost one of his a few days later.
